Canadian 1953 or 54 please help

Well howdy all....I've been searching here quite a while and finally own a 53 or a 54 (or maybe even a 55) Effie.
Bought with no vin on record for the last 4 bills of sale.
This site helped me to determine where to look on the frame for a vin.
The seller was surprised to here me shout out "I've got one yeeehaww!,"
We included the number on the sale as he read it also. But it seems to have caused more question than answered and I'm hoping some one can help like Mr. Number dummy?
Here goes we found..... (Drum roll please)... FAE83A-R-5546**
I believe from all the great information I found here that
F = Ford
83A = Flareside standard cab
R = Flat head
But don't know what the heck A or E could mean.
PLEASE HELP. Thankyou from your New enthusiast.
Doc
PS it is a 1954 grille on a stock frame sandblasted and painted in 83 with original flathead and 3 on the tree

Your vin should be this:
FAE83AHR*5546**

FAE - Ford F-100
83A - Pickup standard cab
H - Windsor plant
R- 1954
*5546** - consecutive truck built

The 239 flathead V-8 was the only engine offered in the F-100. To do the breakdown I used the original books the dealers had.

Nathan could tell you for sure, but I believe '56 was the first year a 6 cylinder engine was offered in Ford/Mercury trucks.

Canadian truck vin's used letters for year code. R would be 1954. My '52 is P. Q was '53, etc.

According to my individual books it lists:
1953 F/M-350 parcel delivery - 215 I-6
1954-56 F/M-350 parcel delivery - 223 I-6
1954-56 F/M-500 parcel delivery - 223 I-6

My 1956 truck chassis book was printed in October 1955 and from what I've read the 223 I-6 in the F-100 was a late 1956 production addition.

My Canadian 1948-60 book is missing the introduction and part listings for 1000-9000. The illustration section shows all the engines available including the flat six but without the first pages, I can't differentiate between the US and Canadian applications.

I've managed to track down another 1948-60 book which is supposed to be complete. Just waiting to get a shipping price. I plan on making a big Canadian info thread once I have it.

Thanks everyone at home and in the US for the welcome!
Thanks Nathan for the great information
Love to post a pic or two but don't really know how.....
Haven't spent much time reading the rules and how to's yet
What I can do in the mean time is tell you all I'm not really new to ford trucks or cars.... Grew up in a ford house... Dad had a 56 fairlane at one time, numerous ltd's and a couple cougars (cars). Ever the rebellious son I was swayed to the dark side (gm) for a while.... Divorce made a z71 and a 67 camaro disappear and after that gm wouldn't touch my credit with a ten-foot-truck-box. Not even lease.... Been a die hard ford boy come home ever since
I've owned
1996 short box fleet side 5 spd 300 i6 short box am/fm and a heater that's it...put.138000 km on lease
2000 f150 short box supercab 4x4 xlt put 185000 km on lease
2002 f150 lariat fx4 (current own ) with 280000 km couldn't afford to keep leasing.... (Hahaha)
1966 mustang, world of wheels award winner this year (6 yrs 4 engines 3 transmission and 2 rear ends- new back body work from rear ended in Victoria and new roof and hood from hood fly open at 75 mph car)
And now my dream truck (thanks expendables) I wanted one before that but that movie put the obsession over the top
Maybe someone can suggest the photo thing....AND I'd love to tell you all a little story about my ama registry office Experience armed with the VIN Nathan helped clarify today.....

The registry office

So today on the way home from work I stop at my ama registry office.
I ask for a vehicle history report using the vin Nathan helped decode.
The response from the lady was unable to decode VIN.
"Oh you're gonna need to have a vin assigned to the truck nothing came up on a Canada wide search"
I says but that's the vin.... I found it on the frame of the truck
Well a registry agent can verify it or the police or insurance bureau of Canada can verify it.... And then we will have to do a vin override....
Hmmmmmm.
