What is this? Emissions pump? 4.9

Don't laugh at me.. but this whole region of the truck looks jimmy-rigged and I cant help but think that this hose sucking in air should be running somewhere else

Looks normal to me. That hose is where the smog pump draws air in from.

Thanks brother. Been a while since I played with an older car. My last truck was a 2002 HD f150 S/C - I don't think it had one of these
