Wow. My truck had the original exhaust. It was tired, but it wasn't rotted out.

I guess Montana must be a mystical magical place! Almost every rebuild thread Ive seen on here including the Astronaut stock rest rebuild these slicks have rust or rot in the floors, corners. etc. Good for you, must be nice to just maintain mechanical and electrical issues without rust

Washington, Idaho, and Oregon seem to be even better.

That '64 I have for sale has less rust than your truck. It has plenty of dents to make up for it though. I wish I had the skill to be able to patch rust like that.

That must be the reason prices stay low on these trucks in that part of the country, if you have som many rust free trucks laying around makes it less of a rarity. You see a rust free truck out here and its either been restored or purchased from your neck of the woods, or Texas, Arizona, etc. If I lived out your way I would have a small business selling rust free truck parts. Anyway, back to the build thread. I'm taking it down to the frame and starting the build there so it will be some time before I start on the cab. Maybe winter / spring if I can find the time.

Well, my MT truck had plenty of rust, so who knows?

Keep the updates and pics coming, always interesting to see another 4x4 saved!

Brother I spend so much at Home Depot I got my own parking spot with my name painted on it... They actually gave me several carts that needed a wheel or whatever, they couldn't sell them (I offered) due to liability but they gave them to me. I highly recommend them...got one under my bed and this one under the cab temporarily. Great when your a one man band...

Same Same 2wd

I am watching your build. It looks like a fun project and the truck for being a 4wd doesn't look all that bad I have seen worse. My projects are all down in the projects forum. I recently just waded into the Orphan Fridge waters. Bought a 57 that I am restoring to resto rod. Good luck with your build 64Tuf.

Edit:::: Just happened to think about that core. There is a difference but only in the way and type of bold holding it to the frame. If yours hasn't been removed before Im going to say the springs for loading were still there on the front 2 frame stand bolts. On my 63 that saw a lot of abuse they were both broken. Not sure where I will find new ones or if I will even replace them. Im pretty sure they must have been put there for flex between cab and core support and frame when off roading. I don't plan on getting it all twisted out of shape off road when the restore is done.

The springs are part number C1TZ-8130-A and are 4.20" free length. I was able to find some NOS a while back, but right now I can't locate any. Some knucklehead must have bought the last ones. D'oh! NumberDummy might be able to locate some using the dealer search. I don't have the ability myself.

I thought I was doing good parking in the Veterans parking spots at my local HD, but your name? That's awesome...Lol. I'll have to look into a cart or two. They'll never notice them missing anyway.... hahaha.

Thanks for that part # TA. I will refer back to this post when the time comes to get those. I do have some of the shorter springs that the unis used as I pulled a very well preserved core support along with those springs out of my local pull and save last year. I do have my original cabs 2wd core support out of a 63 that has some rust issues on the bottom end. If anyone is interested in it I will sell it. The rust issues are not that bad and would be pretty easy to fix. I just found a better one with no rust. Let me know.
