Soooo I found a 1995 F350 CrewCab that has a rust free cab, rest of the truck is in rough shape. I have a 1995 F150 Centurion with a rusty cab. So any body have experience doing a cab swap that has any tips and/or tricks of the trade?

I'd be real sure that the Centurion conversion uses the same mounts and locations that the OEM Ford used… just to be sure.

 

No need for buddies. Just an engine hoist and some boards.

 

I've heard of the engine hoist trick but I dunno if it'd hold a crew cab and have enough reach. I saw a guy remove a crew cab with 2 engine hoists but if you can get it done with one more power to ya. Several ways depending on how many people, space, and tools you have

 

I have experience working on Jeeps, did a motor/tranny/axle swap in my 89 Wrangler. So I would say I am maybe a shade above a novice but not much more!

Any special tools needed or that would be helpful to make things easier? Any order of operations (remove seats before the carpet) that may not be obvious? I am guessing a steering wheel puller to remove the steering wheel and I have a full set of Torx bits (Jeep loves using these turds) for the seat belts and the like.

Anybody know the approx weight of a stripped crew cab with no doors?

Remove seats to make lighter for removal.

No need to pull steering wheel, jut pull complete column

A STRIPPED crew cab with no doors is about 500lbs

Is that with or without all the interior removed? I plan on removing everthing in the interior and replacing it with my interior...

 

Stripped, means STRIPPED

 

Stripped means bare bones, down to the metal inside and out. No HVAC box or ducts, nothing on either side of the firewall, no glass, no wiring, nothing but steel.

 

Does the VIN plate attach to the dash or cab?

 

To the dash And THAT is why centurion cut and butchered your original cab to make it a crew cab instead of just bolting on a crew cab. The VIN follows the CAB. Swapping the vin from your old cab to your new cab is ILLEGAL just so you know. but it is not like anyone would ever know(HINT HINT)

 

A fully assembled cab is very heavy. I just loaded a 1995 crew cab,manual shift, cab only sitting on blocks, up out in a field with an engine hoist. drove the trailer under as far as we could go then set it on dollies and winched it up on the trailer.
Swapping it onto my trailer was alot easier but we used a forklift to set it on my trailer. I should of run it over the scales but got in a time crunch and it was midnight when we got it re-strapped and ready for home.
It is a very heavy unit all assembled.
I should have a bunch of pics if you need them. They are on the camera now, just need to download them. Let me know if you need a pic of a certain spot of the cab.

I only wanted some interior parts but the guy made me a deal on the whole assembly. Shop up the road wants $2500 minium to do the swap for me. I think I'll keep my old cab as it is in good shape it just needs interior.

 

It does? What about the one bolted to the engine block, or the door?
