Truck was running ok as far as I know (I was not driving at the time). Anyway had went several miles and stopped for a bit, shut truck off and then would not restart. Unfortunately truck is 450 miles from home. My son had it towed to the local dealer, after they finally get it in they tell me the HPOP is bad and needs replaced. I have had the EGR delete and head studs done and rebuilt FICM. Has 118k miles on it.

Just need to know if that sounds reasonable, due to truck was running before.

Thanks.

What year is the truck? Earlier models have a less reliable pump.

And the later ones had a decent pump but an stc fitting from the pump to the branch tube that fails without warning and gives the same symptoms as hpop since you can't build pressure when the rails are not connected.

The 05 and up hpop rarely fail. So knowing the year will help us point you I the right direction.

The simplest test to see if your getting oil pumped up to the HPOP is to depress the check valve in the oil filter housing while cranking the engine. Instant oil fill up of the housing LPOP is good. Problem could lie in the High pressure system If it takes a long time to fill the filter housing, LPOP could have gone. Mine exploded and took out the front cover of the engine. They LPOP cover is also known to wear a groove causing loss of LPOP pressure.

Update

Didn't notice I left off the year it is an 05. It has been repaired and is running now. Here is what they said:

"Found no high pressure oil pressure. Perform diag, base oil PSI 60lbs. Check out ICP bias, OK. Sensor ok also. Remove turbo to access IPR, remove and inspect for damage. Found screen gone and debris in the intake. Install know good one, retest pressure, still none. Test oil system for leak and found front shaft seal leaking on high pressure pump assembly.

"Install HPOP, cover gasket and new IPR valve"

Any ideas of what would cause the screen to be gone? That seems kind of strange to me. I guess what I am wondering as the heads studs and oil cooler were done about 5000 miles ago would that have anything to do with it?

Trash falling in while cleaning around oil cooler can damage an ipr valve. Knowen concern. But 5k miles ago going to be hard pressed to prove it.
Hope the guy working on it didnt miss a screen that was stuck in the cover that didnt come out when pulling the ipr
