Steering Wheel Crumbles

My 2005 E150 has a steering wheel that is has flakes popping off of the exterior layer on areas that i normally grip (top and bottom). Only 95000 miles, but it sits out in the Florida sun .Am i the only one? Is there a fix for this? As always, many thanks to all.,...jack

That is unusual Jack, at least in my experience with Ford steering wheels. Had a '97 a few years ago that was still in pretty amazing shape, all things considered.

I'd shop around on eBay---should be quite a few new or nearly new gently used ones there very fair priced. The only real difference will be if you need cruise control switches.
