Bed Removal

Hey guys looking for some advice. I have an 04 F250 that needs the bed removed. I've read a few stories of breaking parts just trying to loosen the bolts. Should I soak them in wd40 for a couple weeks or should I just grind them off and get new ones? Are new ones expensive to buy?

I would soak them first. Don't use WD-40- you need a penetrating oil like PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, or the like. Soak them numerous times. When you put them back in, or for that matter new ones if you have to cut them off, make sure you coat the threads with antiseize compound.

I'm in the same battle as you right now. Go and soak as many as the bolts as you can from underneath with a QUALITY penetrant like PB blaster. Some are easier to get to than others. Then get as many T50 Torx bits as you can. And a good size breaker bar. I have yet to find any bits that wont break. Bought them at Napa and they are lifetime warrantied so i snap them and then bring em back and get new ones. Went to Sears and they gave me one they thought was stronger but nope snapped just like the rest. I have been able to get 6 of the 8 bolts loose but I think the last 2 are a lost cause. I plan on getting all new hardwear once i do decide to pull the bed.

Don't even try to break them loose. Cut the heads off, then deal with what is left after the bed is removed. You'll only end up with a pile of broken Torks bits if you try to take the bolts out first..

Cut off the heads as stated above. I used a torch. Then cut the C clips with a grinder and start over with all new hardware. I got mine from the dealer however I think you can find it cheaper on line. FYI my new bed had the mounting holes in different locations however there where holes in the frame that mated up to the new bed. I just simply put the clips over the holes that I needed. This would be the perfect time to replace the fuel pump, rear shocks, ect.
