SCT Tunes

Hi guys,

Can anyone give me, or tell me where to find, detailed info on what each SCT tune does to my truck? I know the names of course, and the results they're supposed to provide. But what do they specifically change in my computer?

Thanks in advance!

This link to their website describes what it does for the 6.2l. Can select this for any engine that they deal with.

They change variable input mapping parameters. The engine only does what it's told and only reacts to input based on it's programming, it reacts to X change in Y sensor with Z output into A controller. If it's spark advance on a gas engine, it takes the input of 800RPM, calculates a load .10, pulls the value of 8* from the table, and fires the plug. With a 6.0 it'll mainly change the fuel mapping, injection timing and duration.

The basic theory is more fuel = more power, but you can't just throw fuel into the cylinder randomly, it has to be delivered correctly to not jack up cylinder pressures. That's how cheap tuners gave the 6.0L a bad reputation, the TTY bolts were fine with stock fuel mapping, but people put on tuners wtih aggressive fuel curves and the increased cylinder pressure was too much for the bolts.

HEUI diesels are limited because the oil and fuel volume of the injector limits delivery and oil pressure limits delivery timing, but some common rail diesels with piezo injectors can actually have multiple injection events in a single cylinder stroke. That's why 6.7s are quieter, they use a pilot injection which "pre-loads" the cylinder and allows for a more consistent and even burn compared to a HEUI where fuel gets sprayed in and starts to burn more unevenly.

Sorry guys. I don't think I explained myself properly. I'm looking to understand what each tune does to the engine individually. Why is economy mode the way it is? What do they change in the systems for performance more or towing mode?

Knowing this will help me to pick the right tune to setup. See, I am towing and 8k trailer long distances. I don't think I need the muscle of a tow tune; it seems like overkill. But does the tow tune give me better fuel economy while towing? Or would I be better off in street mode?

Inquiring minds want to know...

Are you looking at tunes from a certain company? Each person writes tunes a little differently. There is more than 1 way to skin a cat. You would be best calling the company that you are interested in and talking to them.

It's a basic SCT tuner; no aftermarket tunes.

But good idea; I'm email them.

And typically you get 3 tunes in a package for the same price...

have you considered what it may do to your stretch head bolts with increased pressure ?

I ran SRL for 35k miles without head studs and had no issues
