Oil Change Interval

I always check that the IOLM has been reset, which is generally the case. I'm very particular about my vehicles so I do check my oil almost every time I fill up. If it were ever to be low, smell funny or look bad I would get my oil changed early. Lucky for me it's always been good. We live in a world of data, statistics & algorithms. The people who work on the data & algos are very good at determining what variables predict the desired outcome within a given range. I'm very confident the OLM is accurate so no need for me to worry.

Exactly....... and YOU know if the oil was synthetic or dyno which will change the "interval". ....

I use Synthetic Blend, as recommend in my owners manual, which means my IOLM will be accurate.

Change the oil when it's dirty ~ if engine oil looks like dark honey and is free from particulate matter ~ why change it ```

Much of the Particulate Matter is too small for you to see suspended in the oil...... If they were only worried about the BIG CHUNKS, the filter would be made of window screen.

that's my point... you can not see 1 micron... and it is taking CRUD out that you cant see....... so don't wait until you can see "particulate matter".

Will never see particulate ~ it filters that fine ~ the oil is cleaner then when it is sold ~ the filter is changed every 3 to 5 thousand miles and a quart of fresh oil is added ```

your changing your story... You said run the oil as long as you SEE NOTHING...
if engine oil looks like dark honey and is free from particulate matter ~ why change it ```
That's not right. How do you know it is free of matter by LOOKING.. You can have particulate matter in the oil and you CANT see it... If you had said "change every 5000 miles", then I would agree.
