Stock 1956 ford panel truck

I had been looking for a mid fifties ford truck for two years. Saw a lot of trucks on Craigslist and other forums but they didn't say buy me based on what I wanted, this one did. Bought my truck from the third owner. The second owner had the truck garaged for over thirty years while repainting and finishing the interior. He also repaired some road chips by sanding and priming the repaired area with a dark primer. The first owner was supposed to have been the Tucson or Phoenix Arizona school district. This truck was never out of California or Arizona until I bought it.
I was driving the truck from California to Missouri. Image driving a 50 year old truck with the original engine across country by yourself- crazy I know. It was crazy but it was a great adventure.
I had a great time. Saw a lot of great scenery and met very nice people. Got lots of compliments and several offers to buy my truck. All went well until the water pump went out just outside of Silver Plume, Colorado. I got very lucky
the tow truck company also builds hot rods. They liked the truck and took it to the owners house for secure storage. Unfortunately, my truck will need to be towed to Kansas City for repairs.
My plan is to repaint, either keep stock engine or install a y block so it will appear stock. New disc brakes and a nine inch rear end.
This is the story of my truck so far.
The tow truck company, Gumpy,s towing, has a 46 ford three window or six window school bus for sale.

I just got a stock panel truck with the original six cylinder engine. It is in great shape. The truck still has a lot of the factory paint on the frame, doors with no rust.
I would like to replace the 223 six cylinder engine with a y block so the truck can be returned to stock configuration easily and have more power. I need some help with parts needed to complete the swap. The best y block or y block parts to use. Plus any problems with the swap.
The truck has a three speed transmission. New bell housing needed, etc.
Any help will be appreciated.

We are relatively close since I live in Kansas City...close to Worlds of Fun....maybe our paths will cross sometime. Not sure if you might be going to the Midwest All Truck Nationals in Riverside this coming weekend but I plan on going. It is usually a good show and will be my first time driving my truck...even though I am a long way from being finished.
Good luck on your build and it is a great story, especially trying to drive her that far home. I bought my truck in Illinois a couple of years ago and decided to haul it home rather than risk driving it. Probably a good choice in my case since the brakes needed some attention.

Engine swap
Haven't been able to get the pm about parts. I either don't know how to use pm or haven't been around the site long enough. I will eventually get your info. I'll try your profile
