C Series 389 flywheel ring gear question
I have a 76 C800 with a 389. The starter was grinding and when I replaced it I noticed a group of bad teeth. I got it started and home but now I need to replace the ring gear or the whole flywheel. Does anybody know which ring gears/flywheels interchange?? I've seen 184 and 188 teeth as options as well as 11 and 15 inch flywheels. There seem to be lots of information but no clear interchange. I'm trying to order the replacement ahead of pulling it apart.

Check this link out, it seems that all the FT motors used the same ring gear. However there were several different manual clutch flywheel assemblies that were different size, but all it seems used the same size / tooth count ring gear.

184 tooth ring gear was only used with FE engines (1965/76 F100/350 & 1958/71 cars), there are no such things as FT 11 or 15" flywheels.

C4TZ-6375-D .. M/T Flywheel - 188 tooth ring gear / Marked: C4TE-6380-J or D2TE-6380-CA / Obsolete
1964/78 FT engine applications: 330 2V Heavy Duty / 359/361 / 389/391 // NOT used with 330 2V Medium Duty engine!
The 359 & 389 were FoMoCo's confusing engine sizes for 1973/78 detuned for smog 361's & 391's.

The ring gear can be replaced by itself.
C4TZ-6384-A .. Flywheel Ring Gear - 188 teeth / Obsolete
Applications: 1964/78 ALL FT engines.
