trouble shifting from park

Have been getting stuck and not releasing when brake is applied? I know there is a rod that connects and releases this for brakes or something but can it be replaced easy or just bypassed which I would prefer ?
thanks for any help or advice in advance

Here's a past thread from the tech folder, Brian. It might be of help to you.

Couldn't it also be the brake light switch? I have seen that on several other vehicles. If the vehicle doesn't know you have pressed the brake it won't release it from park.

There may be a significant difference in "getting it out of park" and "the trans selector is difficult to move"

If the lever is difficult to move in all parts of its range, then the problem is in the cable or the DTR switch on the transmission.

If the lever moves well except when trying you shift out of PARK, then you have an issue with the shifter interlock and its releasing signal which comes from the brake pedal position switch.

I have the same problem intermittently. I just have to press down and release the brake a few times generally to make it pass.

It can happen 2-3 times in a day or only once a month, the gremlins in my Ex choose their time I guess.

installed my new switch today, so far hadn't had any problems getting it out of park, I bought my Excursion last month, someone had used zip ties on the switch still can't figure that one out, the clips are all in working order

Had the same issue with my Expedition and my Excursion. From what I could see on both trucks, Ford should have added a good inch to the wires to the switch connector, or secured the wires differently. On the Expedition the wires would ride on the back side of the brake pedal, moving every time you applied the brakes (eventually breaking right at the connector). On the Excursion, whatever they used to secure the wires failed and they hung down (probably bouncing a bit over every bump) and made an intermittent shift issue.

A trip to a pick and pull and some butt connectors and shrink wrap cured it for both, adding a good 2" of wire to both runs to give me room to secure it so it wouldn't bounce or move (limiting the wear and tear on the wires).

Agree with projectSHO89 though, difficulty moving the lever outside of P isn't the switch issue - would be the cable or something in the trans or shifter lever.
