Lots of turn signal issues around, but none like this, it seems. On the new-to-me '00 F150, the front left turn signal stopped working yesterday. I first thought bulb, but it looked good. Replaced it anyway and still no turn signal. Checked and I don't have voltage to the bulb, so it's not a bulb issue. Ground is good because the parking light works. Also, the left rear turn signal works. Additionally, 3 hazards flash, but not the left front. So, I think that rules out, multi-function switch, both flashers, and fuses. I guess I'll have to pull the intake and overflow and see if I can find out where I am losing voltage. Does anybody have a good wiring diagram that shows where the left front turn signal gets voltage?

Man, this is what I get for thinking. I don't know why, but I forgot that the Haynes book has wiring diagrams in it. Doh!

Anyway, looking at the lighting diagram, it looks like the dash indicator, mirror blinker, and left front turn signal all come from the same pin on the multifunction switch. Guess I'll be pulling apart the steering column tomorrow.

 

It's funny how when you know what to search for, you can find all sorts of info. Seems it always takes me a bit to figure that out.

Anyway, got the MFS out today. Pretty easy using the instructions here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...hange-out.html.

Looks like somebody had problems before, as the retention tabs are all broken. And I found several wires not fully inserted into the connector. Apparently this is a common problem. So, I'll order up a replacement connector, which should be here on either Wednesday or Thursday. In the meantime, I need to drive the truck tomorrow, so I guess I'll put that machine shop in the back yard to use making up some little retention clips to replace the wads of paper that somebody else had stuck in there trying to keep the wires in place.

 

Got the m.f. switch back in and functional again. Will still order the new connector, since the main tabs that hold the connector to the switch are both broken. But this will get me by until then.

Here you can see most of the retaining tabs for the pins are missing. Some pins are held in by pieces of paper stuffed in the gap. Others are not held in by the pieces of paper stuffed in the gap. And so began the turn signal problem.

I think these wires will stay in place longer than I need them to.

 

must have been a lot of movement in that area to pull the wires loose... You have a tilt wheel ?? I bet the guy used it 2-3 times a day.

 

Yeah, it does have tilt. Come to think of it, I first noticed the turn signals not working after my daughter had driven, and she had tilted the wheel up and down trying to find the "right" spot. Probably pulled them loose then. I don't think that'll be happening anymore. Odd that all of the little tabs were broken, though. Well, it would seem odd on any other vehicle. As badly as this thing ran when I got it home, I probably shouldn't be surprised.

Next on the list of things to fix is the drink tray in the dash. The apparently-classic spring broken off the back issue.
