Switching to a 17" or 18" with snow tires in the winter or for off road use.

You will suffer rolling on 20s if you drive on broken pavement or gravel roads. Road imperfections are your enemy, potholes and rocks are very dangerous as there is less sidewall to absorb and deflect the blow. On a flat, smooth road, the ride is fine and handling is sharp because there is less tire squirm with a lower profile tire.
I had 17s with 285 tires on my truck when I bought it and 20s now. I will say that it is 6 of 1, half dozen of the other when it comes to ride quality with the 17 vs 20. No real difference.
