There is no electric pump on these trucks, only the mechanical on on the engine. Was the truck running OK before the turbo replacement? What does the fuel gauge read? The "showerhead" pickup tube in the fuel tank is known to rot off, leaving you out of fuel while the gauge shows 1/4 tank.

replace turbo

If theres no pump in tank, why do I have a fuel pump relay. Every thing I've seen and read says I do have a pump in tank, anyway the fuel bowl does not fill up. truck ran perfect before. I drove it from wa to so cal without a hitch except the last 5/6 hundred miles I starting using oil. That's why I replaced the turbo, it was sucking oil threw the seals as verified by Pure Turbos

You have a fuel selector valve but the diesel trucks have no electric fuel pump from the factory. A previous owner could have done the electric conversion though.

Richard

EDT: There should be a tire valve looking thing on the side of the fuel bowl. use a tire gauge to check the fuel pressure while someone cranks it. (put the top back on of course)

turbo

this is a 97 7.3 super duty. the relay is right next to horn and 2 others. this is a factory box not a add on. watched a video on utube which showed a gut replacing clogged filter at end of pickup just past the elect pump. Are you sure you have extensive knowledge of this motor?

The fuse box is probably generic from gas to diesel. The gassers had electric fuel but as far as I know the diesels didn't get it until the new body style. The other alternative is someone has installed it into that truck and did a nice job. The best way to know is to look. The fuel pump on these truck is on the valley between the fuel bowl and the turbo. Right underneath the intake spider. I circled it in the pic

If you have the pump in the valley and the hoses are hooked up you have a manual pump.

Yes, I have had the top of my engine apart a number of times. See the picture above.

Just to be sure, you have an old body style truck, Right? If it's a 97 it should be.

the NBS trucks switched to electric.

These trucks do not have electric pumps.

They do have a sending unit in the tank with a screen on the end of it.

Yeah, I am pretty definite that Richard and every other guy trying to help you in this thread you started have very extensive knowledge of this motor. Might wanna go back and read some more about the basic workings of an OBS 7.3 if that is, in fact, what you have. There was no "97 Superduty" as you say.

Actually, there was iirc. Instead of f-450 they called it superduty. I think it might have had 10 bolt axles too. TThey were not very common.

This is true. I was actually thinking about that but thinking it was just an F-450. I think the badge on the fender even says "Superduty".

The badge says "F-Superduty". The model name, as it would appear on a vehicle title, and as it is referenced in the FSM, is F-Superduty. The name of this _model_ has nothing to do with the SuperDuty _series_ of trucks (F-250, F-350, F-450, etc.) introduced in 1999. Ford does this all the time. Before they were models of vehicle, Ranger and Explorer were trim packages of the pickups. The Zephyr was a Lincoln in the '40s and a Mercury in the '70s.

The OP's profile, however, lists a 1997 F-250.

Like this one...what I was thinking

But they still have mechanical pumps as they are the same under the hood as any other '97, as it has already been said.

Yeah. And it does have 10 bolts. There's quite a few of them in this area. Nobody want to get rid of them. I seem to recall seeing a couple around here from the 87-91 design too. Never seen one with a box though. Always at least a 10' deck

IIRC there was no F-Superduty pickup; they were all C&C.

But back to the OP's problem -
* Does the WTS light come on?
* Does the tach move when you crank it?
* Is there any smoke while cranking?
