What to look for in a V10

99 v-10 with 37k miles, I would buy it and not worry about it. the major stuff will start to happen in about 50K more miles. buy it and change all the fluids, did I say change all the fluids...coolant, all gearboxes, power stearing, drian and refil brake fluid, tranny fluid, everything. take it for inspection and if it passes, drive on. me personally I would replace the battery so I would know my alternator is not going to burn out trying to keep a 100 month old battery charged.

The '99 is the only year Super Duty that didn't come with PI heads, so it makes less power than the newer years. I believe 275 HP if I remember right.
They are solid engines though, I would follow speakerfritz' recommendation and change out the fluids and it should make for a solid truck.

The factory plugs are good for 100,000 miles, and that's how long I'd leave them in unless you start to get misfires.

That's one thing I would leave the heck alone. Factory plugs don't fly out of heads, it always seems to happen when people change them and fail to torque them properly.

Not a huge concern, just listen for it. I've never had it happen on any of my V10s that i changed plugs on 2 of them.
