Thanks, that's good to know.

Appreciate all the advice, I agree a long bed is ideal (especially for 5th wheels) but it doesn't work for us due to wanting to keep the truck in our garage where we still spend part of the year in a very congested area of SoCal (can't wait to sell and not go back).

Ended up coming to an agreement for the 14 I was very satisfied with. Got approx $13K off MSRP with the dealer discount and current rebates. The 15 would have been over $5K more (higher MSRP, less dealer discount and less rebates) and for me $5K wasn't worth the difference.

I have heard good things about the 6.7's so I hope this one will be a great truck we can enjoy for many years. Now to get it set up like I want.

We just sold our short bed 2010 and moved up to the 2014, also in a short bed. We also really wanted the 5th wheel prep, but couldn't find a truck that had the rest of the things we wanted in the color we wanted, so we got a truck without the 5th wheel prep, and installed it ourselves. We had a Curt slider in the old truck, never once needed to use it with our Heartland FW, and believe me we have it jacked pretty tight backing into the driveway.

So we traded in our Curt slider and got a great deal on a B&W 20k with the base for the Ford rails. BTW, getting it in the garage was a priority too! It fits... with about 3" to spare.

Heartland has the 88 degree cap on all it's models now. We too have never felt the need for a slider with our short bed.

One thing to remember about short beds also is IF you ever decide to put a aux fuel tank or toolbox in the bed, you won't have much room left.

Yeah, many of the newer 5ers have the short bed caps. I've got a Husky slider in mine and don't always use it because my Keystone Cougar has the pointy cap. However, using the slider seems to make it more maneuverable.

OP, well done on the $13K off. Post some pics and drive it like you stole it.

I considered that, but as it turns out, my little tank is perfectly matched with my wife's little bladder. When the tank is empty, her tank is full...

x2
This is why I don't get a larger tank as well.

Before I bought my truck off the lot I was going to order a F350 Lariat Short bed. The dealer told me the 18k hitch was not available from ford on the short bed only a 16k hitch. I'm not talking about the pucks or whether it will fit, I was referring to getting the factory hitch with the truck. Of course you can buy what ever you want. I don't know whether the 18k hitch Ford offers from Reese will fit the truck I was quoting the dealer.

No 8k off then I got a total of $2000.00 in incentives which I applied to the down payment along with my 20% down payment. My truck had a MSRP of $68665.00.

Yeah, the dealer was FOS. There is no 16k hitch that works with the Ford prep. Doesn't exist. The 18K is the hitch that goes with the short bed (the 25k would drop right in too but as you mentioned, it would be pointless as the truck can't handle that weight). And, since it's an accessory not a bolted on part, the dealer could have just ordered it for you as part of the deal. His ignorance probably did you a favor though as it's much cheaper to buy the hitch aftermarket labeled "Reese Elite" than have Ford put their sticker on it and mark it up in price. To take it further, you can't technically order a short bed with the hitch. It's always an accessory. If you do build and price on a short bed, the prep is an option. The hitch is not. Not a 16k, not any hitch. Therefore, shortbed guys either buy it as a Ford accessory or from a dealer that sells the Reese Elite line. On the long bed, if you build and price on Ford's site, you can add a hitch as a factory option. Not sure why Ford differentiates this way, but it's just how they operate. May be what confused your dealer. I have no idea where he came up with the 16k hitch though...LOL. That's a unicorn plain and simple...

Yep, the more you pay the more you can get off. Was that xplan and incentives to get to the 14K off?

We just bought the GF a 2014 F150 and she got almost 11K off without xplan. With xplan she would have paid about $500 more.

This. Near the end of our negotiations they told me the only way I was going to get more of a discount was to pick out a truck with a higher MSRP. They said higher MSRP = higher discounts, I guess it makes sense there would be more room with a more expensive MSRP.

I know they're not losing money, but I love the fact that after they told me this I got another $1K out of them.
