Yeah, if I see my volts at 13.5 at idle when I first start it (after the GP's have shut off), I'll check it again to make sure i'm at 14.x at idle when I reach my destination.

I have one like this in my truck:

I have this one in my Ex, my L, and my daughters F250:

I'm at mid 13s no load and low 12s under load at idle while driving the numbers run through green yellow and red lights. I'm trying to decide if I should take back this alternator and buy another one and keep shooting for 14, 13s.

Rad, while plug in voltmeters are useful, they have their limitations.

If you're that low, you need to check the voltage output with a handheld meter directly off of the alternator.

I did, with two different meters. Its under performing in my opinion but tests on alternator at parts store are good.

Okay so went out and started it up. Voltages are normal mid 14s and low 13s lights and fans on. Thinking I either have an intermittent problem (hard draw). I will continue to monitor it I guess.

Double check all your ground points. Make sure they are clean and have good contact.

Also, check to make sure the ring terminal that attaches to the alternator is making good contact and in good working order. When I started having fluctuations, I thought it was my alt but it turned out to be a bad terminal end wire.
