Bumps at Work
I couldn't find the thread on working Ford trucks so I started a new one. A tree was blown down at our 14 acre soccer complex. Last Saturday me and some other volunteers cut the tree up. We also took down a Scotch pine that was dead. I took two loads of brush to the dump. One of the guys had a 77 Dentside 4x4 with a 9 foot dump flatbed. He took the large pieces for firewood for his camp. It was good to see 2 old trucks hard at work. Here are some pics of my loaded truck:

I have another set of 2x8's I put on and then a set of 1x10's half the length of the bed. I hauled 3.5 yards of mulch and figured I could haul 4yds.

Shorty running boards would make my wife happy..... it would make it easier for her to get in the truck.

Here is a pic when I hauled and unloaded 3.5 yards of mulch to beautify a cemetery plot, summer of 2013. You can see the second set of 2x8's and the set of 1x10's on top. All the sideboards are painted beige now.

It's the 9' bed. I looked long and hard to find a short frame. That allows me to get into the back yard without too much hassle. I'm going 2' high on the sides which will just peek over the shoulder by 4 inches. Works out to 5.3 yds level with the top (9x8x2)/27. 5.5 of mulch is probably overly optimistic but it would definitely be a full load. I'll probably max out at 4 just because that's enough work for a weekend. Dirt would be way too much. 2 yds makes it squat if it's really wet. I had the guy set two pallets of stone on it and the springs were flat so I had him take one off. Now I regularly run with the trailer to maximize capacity and allow me to get two pallets of stone at a time. The sides are white oak and I believe from 69. The bottom board is 14 inches wide and still whole on the other side of the bed. Must have been a heck of a tree. I think I'll be going back with white oak. It's plentiful around here and you can get some decent widths for cheap. I'm thinking (3) 8" wide planks of 5/4 rough sawn, plane it, T&G and steel mend straps between the stakes. The stakes are 3" channel. It's going to be heavy. The only thing I'm missing is the T&G bit set. Seems a shame to just lose the original wood so I'm thinking of making a carpenter's tool box out of those pieces. The original owner, Rufus, was I hear pretty 'frugal' so I'm sure he'd appreciate the reuse.
My door tag has 10,000GVWR but the model code is F350 (8,000) and not F351. It does have the tall stack springs in the back with the helper set. I am curious about that discrepancy.
And yours is a beautiful truck Sir!
