What did they look like?
Are they reproduced?

They were the round ones. Classic Haulers, Mid-Fifty, and most of the other usual suppliers have them.

You need to get some vendors catalogs. This is from Classic Haulers website at Home - Classic Haulers F-1 Parts

And the stock brackets are there as well.

I use Classic Haulers and their sister company Mid Fifty Home - Mid Fifty F-100 Parts

Chuck's Trucks Chucks Trucks LLC., Chuck's Trucks, Chucks Trucks

Dennis Carpenter Dennis Carpenter Ford Car, F-100 Pickup Truck, 8N, 9N Tractor and Cushman Scooter Restoration Parts

LMC Truck Parts and Truck Accessories

Mac's http://www.macsautoparts.com/his-FPU/camid/FPU/ca/184/

RockAuto RockAuto Parts Catalog

There are others, but those are good places to search.

I've seen those, but I've also seen other styles too... didn't know which was correct.

No, they mount to the forward side of the stake pocket.

The hinge for the tailgate has two long bolts that go through the hinge, then through the stake pocket and out the other side toward the front of the truck. All you have to do is remove those two nuts, slide that bracket onto the bolts, and then replace the nuts.

Mine doesn't protrude out the front of the stake pocket. I don't think there are holes there either.

Look on the fender side of the tail gate pocket. There are holes and captive nuts in place for the DS and PS.

Then you better post us up a picture of that area. Otherwise, we can't help you more than we have already.
