Stopping rust on windshield seal

Has anyone done this before? I am going to replace my windshield before winter and the cab is starting to rust pretty bad from the seal leaking.

What is the best way to get the rust to stop? What do you use to keep it sealed?

X2. Mine was about the same, ended up grafting on a complete roof from another cab.

X3. Went to take my 79 in to get registered and tagged after 8 months of work to get it road worthy today, and the truck decided to turn itself into a convertible about 3 miles away from the DMV. No warning whatsoever, roof was there one second, and gone the next. Luckily the lady behind me managed to swerve and nobody was hurt, except for my ego as I walked 200 yards back to retrieve it and proceed on the walk of shame back to my truck, roof dragging behind me.

And don't forget about the rear window seal either.

Wow...you mean the entire roof panel sailed off?

I foresee myself doing the same type of roof surgery. Oy.

The only real way is to cut it out and patch. Or, as an interim measure, POR-15 plus top coat.

Wow, that crazy how it peeled off. But you know, if you lived in Cali or FL I think i'd clean it up, paint the supports and leave it. Kind of like an 80' targa top....

Wow you were not kidding in your other thread....as suggested in that thread, here is what I would do.

Go big, go topless.... I mean go roofless.

Yeah it's a shame no one makes a replacement roof skin for the trucks. I think we need to petition DC to start stamping them. Lol.

When my dad owned my truck, the roof pealed open while driving down the road. Except the supports and everything came off, only connected at the back glass then slammed back on his head. He had to get three stitches. Had a body shop graft on a roof and entire back of a new cab. Either the job was not done well or it's a major design flaw because it is happening to me now. I want to figure out why this keeps happening and PERMANENTLY fix it! I would love to pass this truck down to my son, making him the fourth gen to own the same truck.

WoW ..... just "WOW!" on this thread.

Suddenly ..... I feel like what I thought was too rusty ..... is like ..... near pristine now.

I have sealed mine years ago when I thought it might soon start to leak at the top corners of the W-shield.

I want to remove my windshield to assess the damage on my truck. Does anybody have a video or details on how to do this without damaging the glass?
