Unless they are using slang terms to search...

I thought that was what thread tags were for?
Not that I usually add any.

I went to Crane Cams web site and fired off an email to the Customer Service as well as the Technical Department, requesting assistance. As soon as I hear back, I will report.

David - Good idea! Perhaps they will answer the question. And, I just realized that I have one of the Crane adjustable units on the dizzy for Dad's truck. So if we don't have an answer before you are here we can see if that one fits and I can replace it later.

When i asked can or dizzy i was sure Gary knew what i was asking. Never thought about inexperienced people questioning the terminology.

My apologies

Gary did know and yet he didn't think about searches. Will try to keep that in mind.

I was just looking at the pictures in Dylan's thread.

It seems the 300 distributor rotates the opposite direction.
At least, the advance unit has the arm reaching out the opposite side.
Not sure if you can just flip the advance over, and I have NO idea why he has a points distributor in his hand.

Feel free!

But I have to tell you, I usually end up deleting many/most of them (when people bother to add them) and that's because people enter them wrong...

One can make a tag consisting of multiple words, PLEASE DO THAT and do NOT separate each word with a comma as that creates separate tags that are pretty much worthless by themselves.

Ex:

1986, Ford, red, truck

I will delete all that wholesale as each tag, by itself, is pretty useless

i put some tags in some of the subforum threads that I hope might be useful and represent what the thread describes and not something generic and useless.

First, why would this thread need tags? Or, maybe better, why would someone want to find it in a search? Until the revelation that the 300's dizzy rotates the opposite way, which I should have tumbled to because of the timing gears instead of sprockets, there's been no information. Just lots of questions.

However, with that revelation we have the makings of information. I'll pull out a vacuum advance for an eight tomorrow as well as a dizzy and see if it looks like turning the advance upside down would work. Thanks, Jim!

I should have been the one thinking, since I was the one asking "why not?"

At least I'm observant enough to notice something when it is right up in my face.

I saw the same pic and didn't catch it. Glad you did, for sure. Otherwise I would have had a rude awakening when turning David's dizzy to change the timing. Not sure how long it would have taken to awaken "the little gray cells".

Maybe the screws would have to go in through the bottom?
Not sure if the distributor or the advance unit is what is threaded.

I think it is the advance, but will check in a bit. Meanwhile back at the ranch, David found the original dizzy for his engine and it had the tag. So I should be able to find it in the caliber ration codes and find the number of the vacuum advance. Then, if that advance is used on an 8 we will know they interchange. However, since I think there is at least the issue with the screws I doubt it. But that doesn't mean it can't be done.

Okay, I heard from Crane and their response was that they do not know if what they offer will work, since it is specified for V8s.

I brought the distributer I used before the one I purchased from Performance Distributors to work and made use of a set of long shank allen wrenches and found that the vacuum canister IS adjustable [from a 1982 F150]. The magic number is: 1/8".

In a little while, I will go to my truck and confirm that it, too, is adjustable. Both canisters are Motorcraft, so I believe it will be.

Thanks, guys!

Yippee! Cool! So forget the PM I just sent you re calibration code. But, for the rest I found his 82 dizzy's # (E1TE 1217-ZA) in a calibration code for an 81, and a similar one (E3TE 1217-ZA) for an 83, but can't find that code for an 82 like his.
