2005 escape srs fault code 49

I AM IN DEEP KIMCHEE WITH WIFE... i took a load of yard sale stuff to goodwill. I lowered the back seats and filled er up! I also put a carton on the passenger side floor AND a light box on the passenger side seat. I DID NOT THINK I HAD TO BUCKLE THE BOX INTO THE SEAT? I now have no pass air bag and a constant ON air bag lite. I did get a code 49 from the instrument lite. Any ideas?

Start looking around under the driver's seat.
The seat position sensor isn't saying what it's supposed to say.

Yep. That code has nothing to do with whatever was done on the passenger side. Wife can't blame that for the problem although she's still going to blame you anyway.

OTOH, if you had stuff on the driver's side floor in the rear and then adjusted the seat or otherwise caused the stuff to be forced under the driver's seat, it may have damaged or dislodged the sensor or its wiring.
