2008-2012 Ford Escape Expensive Receiver Drier Failures

Now while this may or may not be a repair you would attempt depending on your equipment, it is still one of those very good to know items lurking in your Escape just waiting to fail and then it gets real expensive! I personally own an Escape and replaced mine as even with my free labor and hefty parts discount it would still be a expensive job if it failed and destroyed the rest of the A/C system. Just an FYI for all Escape owners in case you already didn't know.

Thanks! I probably should get onto this this winter. High A/C use here, Texas.

How do I make sure I get an improved drier, and not just another original design one with the same inherent dessicant bag problem?

I assume there is a new part number for the improved one. Could you please tell us the new part number to get?

How will you know if the bag is breaking in pieces , does the a/c just stop working or is it a slow process!

We had ours in under warranty, the cost of the job was more than the premium ESP package itself, well worth the investment on our end.

AS to symptoms, it depends on how bad it clogs, the first thing I noticed was the fans running full blast at startup, if the systems senses high pressure, it will bring the fans up high to try and protect the compressor. But by then it's too late. Full system replacement. The blockage was so bad, that sitting static after shutdown, I could not get my high side gauge coupler to seat.

Yeah, it wouldn't be static till it cooled down and equalized both sides. ESP covered the whole job minus the deductible?

It took just over 6 hours for it to come down. ESP covered everything plus rental. Yep, just cost me the $100 deductible. We always get the premiumcare. They put a MAF on to fix a stumble as well.

My '09 only has 11K on it and the ESP is up for renewal in November which I "will" be doing.

What was replaced. I just read where a tech stated that he did one of these where ESP wouldn't cover replacement of the condenser and evaporator.

Full kit. Hoses, evaporator and condenser included. This was September of 2013. I looked up the job on fmcdealer to make sure.

Hi Makuloco,

In case of the failure of Receiver Drier, which caused the debris fill up the entire AC system, what is the possible option to fix it, except replacing whole or most of AC system? Or, what are the least parts which have to be replaced, then rest can be kept?

Any comment on this?

Really appreciate if you can reply to me.

Regards,
Michael
