I had one of those! It was a '77 and it was a beast. Horribly bad idea putting a front-wheel drive on a car that size - especially with a 403 delivering the power - Do you know how quickly the interior fills up with tire smoke? (or so I was told, by a racer who thought it would be a great idea to juice up a Toronado and take it to the track. Mine was a P.O.S.) LOL.... It was basically the same car as either the Cadillac Eldorado, or the Buick Riviera - just trimmed out differently. I took a look at the transmission/transaxle setup once and said "Nope, I'm not touching that..."

I think you're thinking of the AMC Eagle SX/4 (Spirit eXperimental 4WD) - most Eagles on the road were based off the Concord/Hornet body so, you didn't see too many of the either the SX/4s or the Kammbacks (the Eagle Kammback had a Gremlin body.) I read somewhere that the Eagle was an experiment done by AMC to see how well a unibody could withstand a 4WD setup.
