Rear sliding window found on CL

Hey folks,

Just found a rear slider on Craigslist, advertised for 86-96 model years. I was pretty sure that window would fit my 73 F-250, but I'm always second-guessing myself.... Mine is in a sorry state, so I'm ready to jump on it.

Can anyone confirm or refute the swap?

Thanks in advance,
John

Yes it'll work but be aware that the flimsy plastic latches are prone to breaking and you'll need a new seal to put it in.

Thanks, I do know about the crappy little latch as I've replaced it once in the year since I bought the truck and already it's hanging off. I'm more concerned about having the sliding channels (felt in the tracks) in good shape as mine are shot.

The seal is included with the glass, extra bonus!

I appreciate your quick response.

You know you can get that felt channel in a replacement strip from LMC and change it with the glass still installed? At least I did on my 77.

I wasn't aware of that, but I guess I'll have to try it out since I called the guy at 8:00am this morning and the window is already gone... sonofabeach!

Off to check out LMC then....

My felt was all gone, all I had was the just the bear metal strip. I pulled it out and wrestled/slid/pushed, but made the new strip with felt go in.

Its all about sliding the windows one way then the other, its a PITA, but doable. Tried to locate the LMC page and link it, guess my search skills are failing.

I tried to search LMC too, but came up empty... thanks for trying though.

The search continues, at least I don't have to worry too much about the weather in SD.

They seem to be pretty rare to find in good usable condition here in So Cal. Part of that is because the relentless sun beats the hell out of rubber, tires, window seals, interior trim, so we do have a price to pay for the rust-free tin.

I'm not in a desperate rush to get this done, the original question just came up cuz there was a slider for sale close to me for an awesome price and a later year, but I missed it this time...

Check with your local automotive glass shop. They may be able to help you get the felt. And if your feeling lazy then you can pay them to repair the slider for you as well.

If it's as big of a PITA as 77&79F250 says then depending on the price of install it may be well worth the price.... I've got mine out of my '78 and it's still in pretty good shape but I guess I didn't look at the felt. It's out in the garage so I'll have to check it out now that I'm thinking of it.

Funny thing happened to me, I was at a guys house from craigslist getting some other truck parts when I noticed he had a back sliding window with the seal in great shape. but he said it fit an 80's ford truck, so i wasn't sure if it would fit my 79. Anyway he said, "just take it" so I was thrilled and now that it fits I'm even happier. He was a nice guy lol, thats something I love about restoring my truck, chasing parts. Its not the same as ordering it online.
