I just bought 97 f250 and the fuel filter light was on so I replaced it but looked new truck made it maybe a mile and died. The fuel pump was replaced in January took the filter out a spun over the truck fuel was pumping but not a lot. Filled the filter bowel up with tranny fluid started but runs really bad filter light does not go off
The fuel filter light senses a restriction in the fuel flow, so you may have some debries in the tank, and the fuel pickup "showerhead" may be clogged. does the light stay on if you switch the tank to the other one? By the way, welcome to the Ford Trucks forums!
A bad turbo will not keep it from starting. I think you have a blockage in the fuel lines. I would start by inspecting the lines, and blowing air threw the fuel line from the engine bay back to the fuel tank selector valve.
Start checking lines. Idk if the is a filter on frame rail or not. But pumping and pressurizing fuel are 2 different things so look for the restriction ie volume
