It would seem there is some fitment issues with the Mishimoto thermostat and some early thermostat housings. There aren't any pictures but check post #19 in this thread.

So what do you guys think of this response from Moshimoto:

William,

I received the thermostat and housing, thank you.

It did appear that there was a small change that Ford made from the newest housing and the housing you provided me with. Conveniently, we had a newer thermostat housing here
You can see in the attached picture that the newer one is one the left and yours is on the right. I have sent them both to you as a courtesy and we are going to include on our website that some customers may need to purchase the newer thermostat housing for compatibility!

Here is your tracking number:

It sounds like they make a thermostat that fits the new style housing and if yours isn't that housing, your going to buy one. Having just purchased this thermostat last week, not a single word from the seller (XPD) stating this is a requirement... maybe a disclaimer in the advertisement stating this is in order. It sure would avoid a bunch of "is this the right part" questions... I have an 04 and now wonder if I got the right part... maybe someone will get off the pot soon? And i just bought a Ford thermostat before all this 200* stuff came about. Never installed it, maybe its the right housing... Maybe someone over there would like to clue the rest of us in on "what is the right housing" instead of maintaining the status quo.

Prediction of my future...

order a Mishimoto thermostat, gets here, cool. Take the truck apart, doesn't fit, check the new Ford housing I have, wrong still. Put truck together and cuss the damn thing until blue in the face! Order the new housing (now at $100 for a thermostat change not counting fluid), buy a second round of fluid and spend the hour fixing it again, this time correctly. That's two housings and two thermostats and two rounds of fluid in my case.

I'm in the wrong business!

Hmm, I never new there was more than one type of housing for the 6.0? Aren't all Motorcraft t-stats the same part #?

I have 3. One in the truck that came from my
local IH dealer and the other two from Ford.
The one form IH is holding steady at 192º
SO do I pay $56 for 10º more? At this point
I think I may wait the winter and see if the
numbers hold out of not.

Mine has been goofy as heck. It was mid to high 70's on the way home today and ECT was 194 to 196. When OAT is below 70 it won't get above 190 hardly and when OAT is in the low 50's and below 186 188 is the becoming my norm.

Sounds to me like ithaca1230 just sent Mishimoto a housing they have never seen before (He doesn't have a Sig line but his profile says his X is an '05) That would explain why were just hearing about it, and to be honest I'm with Money-Pit (and probably many others including Mishi) who thought they were all the same.

WhatsonR,
If you've bought a housing recently I'll bet that one works for you. Don't forget about the rod possibly extending during shipping as mentioned earlier in this thread. If neither one will work I have 3 or 4 around here I'd be happy to send you one-no charge.

Sean,
If you currently have a 'stat in your truck that's holding 192° I honestly wouldn't worry about this right now but when/if it drops later you now know there are options instead of putting yet another failer in there.

Ithaca1230,
Thanks for posting this info.
