Clutch pedal pushes brake pedal

1987 F-150, new to me. Depressing clutch pedal slightly depresses brake pedal, enough to slightly engage brakes. I can pull brake pedal up with my toes, but it'll happen the next time I push down on the clutch. More pronounced when engine is running. I've tried spraying with lube but no luck so far. Please let me have your thoughts....thanks in advance.

sounds like the bushing in the pedal assembly is worn out, causing the clutch to rub the brake.

How to fix

Thanks, Tom. Does the fix require pulling out the dash/steering column?

Agree. The bushings are shot.

Great write up with pictures of how to replace.

P/N for things you might want to replace while you're there:

This part is metal, I can't imagine it would wear unless you left the bushings in bad shape for years:
<style type="text/css"><!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}--></style><table dir="ltr" style="table-layout:fixed;font-size:13px;font-family:arial,sans,sans-serif;border-collapse:collapse;border:1px solid #ccc" border="1" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><colgroup><col width="207"><col width="105"></colgroup><tbody><tr style="height:17px;"><td style="padding:0px 3px 0px 3px;vertical-align:bottom;color:#000000;text-align:left;direction:ltr;border-right:;border-bottom:;">Clutch Lever</td><td style="padding:0px 3px 0px 3px;vertical-align:bottom;font-weight:bold;color:#000000;text-align:left;direction:ltr;border-right:;border-bottom:;">E7TZ-7A554-A</td></tr></tbody></table>
You can get the entire pedal box assembly (which has the Clutch & Brake Pedal Bushing kit already installed).
<style type="text/css"><!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}--></style><table dir="ltr" style="table-layout:fixed;font-size:13px;font-family:arial,sans,sans-serif;border-collapse:collapse;border:1px solid #ccc" border="1" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><colgroup><col width="207"><col width="105"></colgroup><tbody><tr style="height:17px;"><td style="padding:0px 3px 0px 3px;vertical-align:bottom;color:#000000;text-align:left;direction:ltr;border-right:;border-bottom:;">Pedal Box (Brake & Clutch)</td><td style="padding:0px 3px 0px 3px;vertical-align:bottom;font-weight:bold;color:#000000;text-align:left;direction:ltr;border-right:;border-bottom:;">F3TZ-2455-A</td></tr></tbody></table>
I wish I could find an exploded parts diagram, that would help to explain/show where all the little bushings go...

Here's an exploded view of the brake/clutch assy I found (for 1980-1989 trucks). Maybe this will add to the conversation.

you can remove all the parts while leaving the brackets in. it involves sliding the shaft to the side - but if it is somehow rusted, this may be hard to do.

Thanks, all. A little more WD-40 with the gas pedal almost in my mouth and I got it. Squeak is gone, pedals move independently, etc. Smooth as silk!!! Guess I dodged that bullet.....
