Also the trick flow heads have better detonation resistance and better flow across a wider range, where as the ported pi heads seem to sacrifice low end for top end. Also I have experience with the effects of dropping compression, and 290-300 rwhp may not sound like much but it is a nice improvement over stock which is 210-216 rwhp. I know that sounds low but I have only found 2 stock dyno's and that is their results.

It will probably be next year before I do mine as I am a pipeline utility inspector, and am currently out of work. I will be sure and post my results when completed though.

Put a lightning blower on it and be done with it.

Because the engine sits farther back in the engine bay for the Super Duties than it does in the 150, the intake snorkel for the supercharger hits the cowl rather than sitting in front of it like in the 150.

I think that the OP has what sounds like a pretty sweet build in mind for the 5.4 and I am looking forward to seeing how it works out for him. I also think that his proposed build will have better longevity with teh kind of use that his SD is likely to see than converting an NA motor to forced induction withoout all of the necessary mods to the bottom end.

No bottom end upgrades are needed. The stock internals can take 400whp all day long with a good tune. Would a Whipple fit better? It moves the blower intake from the top to the side.

If you read the posted thread others have put lightning blowers on superdutys. Maybe it requires a taller hood for clearance?

Also off boost performance on the bottom end sucks on the lightning blower swaps, as far as I have seen, due to the lack of runner length on the intake.

Also it's not like I can't run a centri blower later. intercooled with meth injection I should be able to run some boost if I ever decide to.

Well I can not find a factory replacement short block. The local ford dealer said $3000 or $3500 ( I don't remember which) for a rebuilt long block but no short locks are available. I guess I will just go with a built shortblock. JE makes a zero deck piston for the 5.4 with a 27.7 cc dish for proper quench. Some good H-beams, and good bearings and rings. Top it off with trick flow heads and MHS' stage 1 trick flow NA cam is what was recommended for my application from MHS' owner. Then the JBA cat4ward headers and true dual 2.5" exhaust with strait through mufflers should be good till I have time to make my own headers. The owner of MHS said that good gains have been seen going with a zero deck setup on the 5.4. Also the Hardballer intake, 42 lb/hr injectors, 75 mm TB, and lightning MAF, new fuel pump, and a 3000rpm stall converter. I should see gains across the board and will keep y'all updated after I finish the build.

With those pistons and 38 cc heads I should be around 10.3:1 compression ratio

Have you looked at a 3v 6.8 gets you +100hp/100tq stock vs stock over your 2v 5.4.

What about a Shelby GT500 motor? It's a 32 valve 5.4... same block as the truck I think. I had a 2012 and with a smaller pulley and program it was supposed to be 615hp (I didn't dyno it). Probably have the same cowl clearance problems though...

Yes I looked into that and apparently the 3v v10 is a difficult swap. Also they are treated like gold at the junk yards I have checked. Plus I just don't like the v10 because they seem to be rev limited. I read where someone stated it was because of its uneven firing order, but I don't know personally. This should be easy to do just swapping parts. Should be reliable with gains across the board, and lots of fun.

Do it!! I am still going through with my cummins swap but my 5.4l is gonna go into my 95 eventually so it would be awesome if i had something to go by and build it before my 95 gets it!

As far as the gt500 motor it would have to be seriously detuned to be reliable in a 7000 lb truck. Then due to lack of intake runner tuning the bottom end will suffer when off boost. Not to mention the cost of the gt500 motor.
