I need MORE POWER!!

Hi guys, I currently have a 1990 Bronco, it has the 351W engine. I want to get a SuperDuty with the V10. My question is do the V10 engines have a noticeable power increase over the truck I have now? I suppose I should go test drive one, I just wanted your opinions first! THanks a bunch.

I need MORE POWER!!

HI, I'm looking for seat in the pants feel. I want a truck that will burn rubber!! Also, I need a TON of power for off-road situations.

My Bronco, is a DOG! It has no pick-up at all. THe only time I can burn rubber is in the dirt. I already have close to $5,000 just in the engine!! I need MORE POWER!!!!

the lack of power in your bronco sounds like high gearing what is your rear axle ratio

My rear axle ratio is a 3.55. I already have an appointment to drive a F-250 SD With the V10 engine on wednesday. I just wanted to know what to expect out of the V10 engine.

well i hope you enjoyed your V-10 drive and i know that you will feel the power of the V-10 to be more than your bronco. dont get me wrong, that 351 is a bruiser if maintained and working properly. but were talking about a 415ci motor. you should easily get your tires to squeal with even the 4 door longbed! i do and i have alot more options than factory would consider!!!!and im up at 4000ft in reno.

2000 f-350 4 door longbed V-10
K&N FIPK
Dynomax exhaust
38.5x16x16.5 Super Swamper TSL's
8 1/2" Lift

I need MORE POWER!!

Well, I test drove a 2003 F-250 Supercab with Shortbed yesterday. The truck had the V10 engine, it also had the FX4 Package. THe sticker on it was $36,000. I really liked the color, it was dark shadow grey.

Let me tell you how I liked that engine performance wise. I was a little dis-appointed with off the line performance. After I hit 15 m.p.h. the truck took off, it nailed me into the seat!!! Also it had AWESOME pickup on the freeway. I was doing 80 and the truck would still be accelerating HARD.

Over-All I was very impressed. When I popped the hood to check out the engine, I was drolling. That engine is a beast. It takes up the whole engine compartment. Another thing I really liked was that it had a HUGE radiator, High FLow water pump, and the recoverytank held a whole bottle of coolant. This is important to me since I will use it mostly for off-road.

Another thing I liked was the way it sounds When you punch the gas it sounds like there is a super-Charger under the hood.

So, after driving it I decided to buy one!! I'm gong to purchase it within the next 2 months. I have to sell my current truck first. WHat kind of mods do you think I should do to the engine. I was thinking, Air intake sys., Exhaust, and maybe a chip? Thanks a bunch guys for all you help. I can't wait to join the V10 community!!

hey bud,
well im glad you liked the V-10 and superduty for the matter. K&N FIPK will be a great addition as well as an exhaust system. try going with the magnaflow, dynomax or banks exhaust system. you will get quality sound and performance from them. as far as the chip, superchip or hypertech is great as well as diablo. but if you got the money, might think about a 1715 microtuner from superchip. you can fine tune your vehicle for the mods you have on it or for larger tires, etc. so good luck!!!!!!!!!!!

Bronco, 351W Auto 4X4 EB--->F-250, V-10 Auto.

There's no comparisson in my opinion. I too was impressed and still am.

Bronco351 this is not a slam but guys like you are the reason I don't like to buy "off the lot". Never know what abuse the engine goes throught on test drives.

Considering the giant weight difference between you bronco and the SD truck I would hope that you realize the un-broke-in motor you test drove will do much better in initial acceleration later in life.

The V10 is an awesome motor as is, and can be made a little better, but most of the aftermarket stuff justs costs money with no real serious gains. Don't flame me guys, I know there are ponys to unleash, but the Ford push rod motors can be doubled in power for the same $3000.00 it takes to bolt on maybe 75HP on the V10.

Also be aware that the SD truck is a capable 'wheeler but will beat you to death if you are a fast power grabber in the dirt and rocks. This truck was built to haul big a$$ loads and not for off road comfort.

The long wheel base also limits it's 4 wheeling ability as high center on top of sharp hillocks/rises, and nose/tail pinch in steep crevases will greatly discorage fast 'wheeling.

I take mine off road a lot, but it is not to 'wheel.... I drag a lot of crap and long TT to very remote (65miles off road) private mountain lake. When we first went to the "cabin" I/we decided to take the new truck and not my friends Jeep to get to our hunting site 15 miles away. Bad mistake, actually got motion sick from the low speed jostling (two hours plus) and getting it up to 25/35mph off road was out of the question. I am talking OFF road here, this truck will haul *** down improved gravel trails and county roads, but rocks and pot holes will throw it all over the palce.

I need MORE POWER!!

Hi, the salesman I talked to said it only weighed 6500 pounds. My bronco is a bit over 5000! That doesn't seem liek that much difference. I didn't have a chance to look at the sticker on the door, so I couldn't say if he was lying or not.

Make sure you get the 4.30 rear end if you want seat of the pants feel. The V-10 with 3.73's is a dog compared to the V-10 with the 4.30's. Highway gas mileage will suffer a little but it doesn't sound like your concerned about gas mileage.

Bronco351

Bottom line to answer your original question.....YES the V10 has significan power over your 351! Relativley speaking.

Depending on bed and doors the usual SD is near to 6800lbs and can be over 7100lbs unloaded. That is close to or over a ton, or more heavier than your 5000lb Bronco.

Then there is "frontal cross section" (wind drag) in the mix. SD has much more.

Lastly is vehicle height and length. CG and stability factors.

If you factor all these against the broncos HP/weight ratio and the SDs HP/weight ratio, you will be very supprised.

Considering all this, the Ford SD 4x4s are awesome machiens and I get real pissed when the truck and '4x4 mags keep picking some wimp, can't haul, IFS, cushy ride, other brand as truck of the year!

SD is better looking, better 4x4 (solid axel), better MPG (well it is if you would get your f...ing foot out of it!), better acceleration, better stopping, better aproach and departure angles, hauls more weight, did I say better looking.
