F500

I'm wondering if this is a project I want to take on.

1956 FORD F-500

I'm wondering what is just like an F100 and what won't fit. And are these the widowmaker wheels and will later models wheels fit.

I do like the larger trucks and that appears to be a nice one. I would be all over it, at least to determine it is as solid as it appears. Cab, doors and engine will be the same as F100, not much else. Those should not be the widowmaker wheels. This is a big truck compared to the F100. If the engine is original, it is probably the 272, not that it makes much difference. Someone needs to check that out and save it.
Edit: I do believe that is a Ford script bed. Can't see much of it but what I see looks script.

If what he says is rebuilt or new then half your work is already done! It sounds like a good deal at that price.

Show us pictures after you've bought it!

Have you picked it up yet?
Nice looking truck. I hear brakes are a little harder to get parts, but the other big truck guys seem to get along just fine. No widowmakers! That's a big bonus.

I doubt you will have anyone here tell you to shy away from that one.

Just popped up on CL this morning. Its in Jackson, TN about 75 miles up I40 from here. If it could be driven home I would be a little more on fire about it. Or if it was a COE. Or if it would come closer to fitting in my shop! Maybe I'll check into it this weekend. If it were a driver, it wouldn't last long around here.

To answer your first question, yes you should take it on. For the same reason mountain climbers take on Everest, "because it's there". Looks way easier, cheaper and a heck of a lot more fun than mountain climbing.

Heck I'm in Ohio and I'm thinking I could throw on a fuel pump, pinch off the brake line to the one side in the rear and DRIVE it home!

I better quit thinking about it!

Pinch off a brake line!!? I don't know about that one. I would have to drive it that way for at least 70 mile - I40 or US 70!

Pinching off a brake line is no big deal. You still have 3. (Statistics show most accidents occur within 3 miles from home, so the first 67 miles are easy ) And BTW it DOES look like a script bed to me.

That one does look about as nice as they come, especially for mid-west/east trucks. A lot of work has been done. If one's looking for a bigger truck, and a 56 even, this appears to be the one to have. You'll kick yourself later if you pass it up over a fuel pump and wheel cylinder.

Although I think one of the first things I'd do is find a different filter location and move the fuel line away from the exhaust crossover. That's a boiler waiting to happen, imho.

1.) Just missed a 1960 F100 (with cheby 350) for $3000. Needed cab corners.
2.) Just missed a 1929 Model A Fordoor for $6000. Needed nothing.
3.) Missed a 55 Nomad driver for $7500 few years ago
4.) Kick myself a lot!
5.) NO -- still don't have a pile of money in the bank!!
