Idle stall

Hi all, Finally got the oil filter to stop leaking against the Adapter plate, know a new issue has come up, so I can't drive her.

I have a 1963 Ford f100 with 223 & standard 3 on the tree. It has a Loadomatic dizzy with a Autolite 1100 Manual Choke, which worked OK before the preservation project. Now I have issues with not being able to idle, once I get under 1000 RPM’s it flutters and stalls. Adjusting the idle screw and timing in different configurations doesn't help. I rebuilt the 1100 before and the truck ran Idled fine. recently I did have a big backfire with blew the muffler wide open, but doesn't seem to have caused any damage (other than the muffler). I checked for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner and there was no difference in RPM’s. I have had the carb apart again to clean but didn't take the accelerator diaphragm out to inspect. I have steady 145 lbs pressure at each cylinder, and before I knew better Put in an igniter II ignition and igniter 3 coil with 7mm wires. Which I guess doesn't work well with the Spark control valve of the 1100. Originally set Spark plugs at .033, but I changed them back to .026 thinking maybe I widened the gap too much, and is much the same issue. Would the smaller gap be causing the issue? I read that with the igniter II, the Gap should be more like .040.
Even though I think it is a fool’s errand I am going to check the dizzy diaphragm for the vacuum advance, and the accelerator pump diaphragm in the 1100 when I have the carb apart I plan on blowing air through it and maybe an ultrasonic bath with the valves/jets out of the carb and another air cleaning. If this doesn't work I am replacing the distributor, as it is old and does seem to have a little play in it. The vacuum advance springs are loose when the dizzy is at rest but can’t find information on what they are supposed to be.

If none of this works, or even if it does, I was thinking a duraspark distributor, and replace the 1100 with a ? any suggestions??

A couple other questions- I have seen the 223 intake described as an integral part of the head, (small or large Log?) and mine is a bolt on intake & exhaust (see picture attached). Is the 2 BBl an option with my set up? Does it change any of the Duraspark/carb recommendations?

Feel like I am writing a book, but any and all help, direction or advice would be Greatly appreciated

Barb

A blown out muffler sounds like timing. I don't have any experience with the straight sixes, but my 390 did the same thing which turned out to be a bad timing chain. Replace the dizzy if it's worn. I like the Pertronix, but I am not familiar with the spark control valve and the problems it may cause. The vacuum advance should have nothing to do with your idle problems. Good luck.

I'm working on my 63 F500 and had issues with idle as well. Now I'm pretty good with idle, but experiencing off idle stumble, from what I understand a common problem with the 1100 carb.
Check the vac chamber at the distributor, mine was bad, which caused a vacuum leak, and accompanying lean condition idle problems. PO had over-enrichened the carb to compensate.
I also had a worn throttle shaft, which I soldiered and sanded back into shape so check for rocking there.

The instructions are a little vague and some reference a slow idle screw, which is not present on my carb, which is manual choke

As for my stumble I'm going to try and adjust the accelerator pump from 3/16 to about 7/32 or so to see if it puts more fuel in.

Good luck

Sounds like the idle circuit is plugged some where.
