F250 5.4 trans issues

My plow truck has been sitting all summer. It's a 2001 f250 5.4l gas. I went to move it tonight and all was fine in forward but in reverse it's like it's slipping at first. Give it a little rev and it's like it's slips for a second and then takes off as normal. When you stop it's the same thing over.

Last winter reverse was fine. I do have an issue with it won't come out of 2nd. I only have 1st and 2nd gear but I believe that is a totally different problem and probably electrical related.

Thanks for any help!

I will check tomorrow. It was fine when put up. And no signs of a leak where it was sitting though.

Hmmmm.....the direct clutch is used for 3rd gear AND reverse. And neither 3rd gear nor reverse are working properly. Maybe it isn't a separate issue, and probably it isn't electrical.

It's not that 3rd is slipping it's just won't shift to 3rd.

Reverse works fine it's just you have to rev it to get moving. Seems like it slips for a few seconds but then takes off as normal.

Just an update. The level did appear to be low so I added a little fluid. It seems to be getting better the more it's driven around. Hopefully with a little more time it will work good again. A vechicle that's laid up does absolutely no good for it!

It's going in the shop for some body work tonight so when I get it back I will check into this some more. Thanks for the help everyone.

Right. Both of these symptoms point to a failed direct clutch.
