Trail scouting trip near Artesia Lake 8/23 - Near Carson NV

If anyone is interested this Sat I am heading to see some trails for the fist time near Artesia Lake this Saturday 8/23. I am scouting these trails for a future group off road trip for. All you need is 4x4, two way radio for safety, and packed lunch as there is no food unless you feel like hunting and cooking a squirrel. A lifted 2x4 probably could do the entire trip but not 100% sure.

If you care to come we will rally here before taking off.

Saturday 8/23
Time: 8:00am
Starbucks - 4311 Town Center Boulevard
El Dorado Hills, CA 95762
Fuel options for top off - Valero and Chevron.

Depart 8:15am - and i mean 8:15 so if you are late, look for us on the road up to the start point.

Pre-trail fuel top off meeting location
7-Eleven
1060 US Hwy 395 N
Gardnerville, NV 89410

Hey, your last stop is near my neck of the woods.

Check out Barney Riley Trail, if you can while in the area. It ends at Riverside Hotsprings. Cool place to check out.
4x4TrailMaps - Barney Riley Trail

Also you can check out Deer Valley Trail near Hope Valley. Awesome Eastern Sierra countryside. Real purdy country.

Not sure how much of a challenge either of these are as I haven't actually tried them but they are in nice country. Do some research to make sure you don't get in over your head. Wish I could tie in with you while out here. We have tentative plans with our daughter to meet up for a family event, but you never know. Like I said, the plans are tentative.

Have fun! Tim

Thanks for the links. I have been trying to find resources for all the trails in the area. So many different sites and formats. None are in the setup I like so I am going on for my knowledge of routes for future events.

Right now there is 3 of us going so if things chance welcome to tag along.

What are you guys driving? If in a long bed F250, just know that I've heard that some of these trails are for short wheel base and high center ground clearance. Not sure which ones, however.

Right now it is a Raptor, 4 Door Jeep Wrangler, and a Land Rover Lr2 going.

These area more forest trails than EXTREME off road. I am not into the extreme routes. I think my wifes Subaru Outback could make he whole trip possibly. Then again don't know as I never saw these roads. Welcome to come and turn back if needed. Google sees the roads in most cases.

that is the plan =)

If you guys care to help, I am making a database of drives and now off road trails. I know there are a lot of sites out there but none of them show trails the way I like. If you have a trail and care to share it see my hobby site for the the route and events I put on.

for quads I like up at Prosser north of Truckee but as far as our trucks I have nada. If the drive is worth it for you there are many spots near Barstow and Bishop. Spend the night distances.

I've driven my Crew Cab 4x4 Super Duty Short Bed down the Deer Valley Trail, but it was about all it could do to make it through the rocky sections. More of a Jeep/Krawler trail.

I think they're doing it currently, this weekend. It looks like an exploratory excursion, for more to come, I think.
