If you have AC and or do any towing then ,I'd replace it.
But most guys don't replace them and find there engine runs about the same temp with out it.
If you have done the required cleaning an flushing and have changed coolant 3-5 yrs. Doing this type of maintenance then you should not have any heating issues.
I cut mind in haft to make replacing water pump much easier with four home made aluminum L brackets attached on each side haft with pop rivet where the hafts come back together.
So the lower haft will just stay in place after removing upper haft.
Then when it's installed on the radiator the L brackets come together and touch. I then ran two sheet metal screws to pull it together in place so it won't vibrate.
Kind of like what was done by GM vehicles yrs ago
Maybe you can see the L bracket with the two screws

Hit the junk yard and find a ford contour dual fan setup.
Here's just one or a dozen install threads:
Ford Contour Fans Install - yet another thread - Rennlist Discussion Forums
It's cheap, easy, and crazy powerful.
Plus it's electric and frees up HP.
People use them in everything, mustangs, hotrods, jeeps, etc.
