But they used different trailer weights? Not sure if I agree with that move... this meant the Ford was pulling 3000lbs less up the grade than the Ram.

I wish they would have kept it all the same, then it could have been more useful to compare.

 

It looks like to me the Dodge is overrated, prob for advertising purposes. A 3/4 ton single rear wheel gas truck should not be rated for 22k lbs IMO.

 

Actually, Ram is the only one to be J2807 compliant on their heavy duty trucks, as well as their light duty trucks. The GVWR and towing numbers are entirely accurate as far as the industry standard is concerned. Neither Ford or GM can say that right now.

 

Good point, which is why their decision to use different weights frustrates me. Had they been at the same weight, one could extrapolate to the Ford, given that the Ram is J2807 compliant.

I guess I'll have to wait for another test. My plan has always been to buy a used 6.2 when/if I need to move on to another truck but it would be really nice to see how the "older" drivetrain compares to the 6.4 Hemi which has gotten a lot of hoopla...

 

I don't place a lot of value in these kinds of tests, but they are interesting.

I am thinking about a new rig and have driven 2 F350s with the 6.2 and one Ram 2500 and one 3500 with the 6.4. All with 3.73 gears. On the test drives the Hemi feels much stronger, but when you put your foot down and the revs come up the 6.2 pulls hard. It is obvious the peak torque on the Hemi is at a much lower rpm, 4600 vs 4000 I think. This gives it a feel closer to my V10.
