Making Progress on my 64 F100

I thought I would finally share a few pics of my 64. It has been a lot of work, but it is coming together and is a driver now. It was off the road for 10 years before I picked it up from the previous owner of 38 years.

As it sits now.

The engine compartment before pulling the engine.

Now after a complete rebuild of the 292 Y Block.

Very nice.

Your upper radiator hose outlet points to 10 o'clock-ish, mine points straight up.

Which is correct?

Also could you measure the battery hold down for me? I don't have one and my truck came to me with a giant deep cycle battery that barely fits in the tray. The battery is new but I don't know how long it will last.

Talk about making a silk purse out of a sow's ear, the inner fender's and firewall also came out looking great. Just a suggestion, may want to take steps to preserve the hood they are as hard to find as hen's teeth. Again, project looks great!!.

Battery hold down is 10 1/2" X 7 3/8" and fits my group 34 battery. The radiator hose probably went straight up on earlier 292s. Either way will work fine as long as the hose does not kink or bind.

I rebuilt the engine with the help of my stepdad. Parts are not cheap for these engines and I have $1400 in machine costs alone. The heads are milled with new valves, springs, guides, hardened exhaust seats, etc. The engine is basically better than new with all new bearings, cam, bored .030' over with moly rings, rebuilt rods, oil pump, distributor, etc. All rotating assemblies were balanced. It helps having a family friend who runs his own machine shop and has been building top notch racing engines for years. I am into the engine probably north of $3000.

Thanks, yeah I specialize in polishing turds.....The rust on top of the hood has been treated with CLR and a scothbrite pad which removes most of the rust revealing the remaining paint beneath. I then coat with a heavy coat of a Carnuba wax. Their is a slight rust bubble at the nose of the hood that was treated with Ospho from underneath before I painted the underside of the hood.

Not sure if it matters, I did not find any relief holes on the underside of the front section of the hood so I drilled a couple holes where water tends to collect.

Here is a shot from earlier in the month of my truck and vintage trailer at a Vintage Trailer Rally held at Champoeg State park here in Oregon. My primary purpose of rebuilding this truck was for towing my 1961 Shasta Compact and the truck is working well for the task.
