IPR replacement

When changing out the IPR and first draining the HPOP oil, do you guys save it and reuse it? Or do you need to add new oil? Also how much oil does it take or do you just fill it to the top?

Personally I don't even worry about the little that come out, just clean up after replacement. If you need any top off, just add it to the crankcase.

Yup... Pull IPR, wipe orifice with a rag, lube o-rings on IPR and install.

What tools are you using to get the IPR out?

Craftsman 1-1/8", 1/2" drive deep socket. It's deep enough to fit the IPR and still get the ratchet drive into the socket.

Yep! That's what I used

I also am changing out the EBV sensor. Question: I went to clean out the tube and the tube was pretty much clean! Is that normal? I'm glad it was, but surprised! I guess since it wasn't clogged up, my sensor is at fault. I'm guessing

They can be clean, just depends on how much soot has been in the exhaust. Make sure to check/clean all the way down to the fitting at the manifold in case that's where it's clogged and keeping it from coming up the tube to the sensor.

Yeah I checked that area as well. Used some wire, brake cleaner and compressed air- all was good! So I'm hoping it's the sensor. Ford dealership wanted over $850 to replace the IPR and EBV sensors! . I said um, that's ok, I'll in be shortly to pick up my truck! So I've got the IPR installed, just waiting on the mail to get here with my EBV! . Hopefully with replacing those 2 things- the codes will go away and truck will run a bit better!

Yeah, the book says to pull the fuel filter housing AND the x-pipe off to change the IPR. What a joke. I might go apply for a tech job at the dealership here and volunteer to change IPRs on 7.3s all day. I'd be rich, I tells ya!

I used a moving blanket on top of the jack and alternator - comfort was probably the most difficult part of it- oh and a few scraped knuckles! Ha!

Ok, finally got my EBP sensor in the mail- installed it ......and started the truck. It was idling very rough for a couple mins. I decided to drive her a bit to get her up to temps and get on the pedal to blow out whatever, after a few she seemed to run like normal and the idle was back to where it should be (so I think).

Question: do you think she was running and idling rough due to changing the IPR and losing a small amount of oil in the HPOP? Maybe the HPOP needed to be topped off by running her a bit- and now everything is where it should be? Does that make sense?

Yeah that sounds correct the HPOP reservoir will fill when you take the truck for a run , if it was down to far it wouldn't hurt to take the inspection plug out and top up to 1/2'' to the top.

So with the HPOP a little low on oil, that will cause a rough idle?
