OEM Steps (2001) on my 04 X

Hi guys
I have F250 steps on my X, they have the aluminum brackets, I cant find any info, any idea if the steps are available by themselves ? or who made them ? Or what will fit, Thanks

Take your question to the Excursion section for better responses. AFAIK though and Super Duty Crew Cab step should work.

Thanks, I figure I try here since they are 250 step bars, I am about to give up and remove both steps and just use 2 pipes, since the bracket is curved and I wanted to reuse them since their beefy , I don't think I can find the steps by themselves.

On the OE steps the tube should be aluminum, the brackets should be steel with plastic covers. I have these on my 04'.

The OE steps are made to be somewhat universal with the mounting holes in the brackets and on the truck. The step length is whats important. On an Ex you are looking at crew cab length running boards. I put 08' running boards on my dads 03' since I broke one. Both were the black plastic but they bolted right up.

Check ebay, you can often find new take offs on there. That is where I got the 08' steps for my dads truck.

The ones I have on now the brackets are aluminum, with a plastic cover, very light. The steps are the same but they got bent, the brackets tend to break but I like them better than the steel like the ones on the running boards.

I'm just trying to replace the step and use the brackets, so I was wondering who made them for ford, see if I could find some aftermarket that would fit the brackets.

Thanks

You said the steps from the F250 are from a 2001 model year, and that your Ex is a 2004 model year.

Do the aluminum brackets that you want to keep and reuse have a Ford oval cast anywhere on the back of them? I'm wondering if you have Ford accessory steps, as opposed to Ford production steps.

For what it is worth, I replaced my factory production (dark gray plastic) running boards on my 2000 crew cab with factory production Excursion running boards (darker gray plastic). The Excursion running boards were about 8" longer than the crew cab running boards. The bracket locations were the same. Just the boards themselves were longer for the Excursion.

You are correct Sir, the accessory ones, aluminum / chrome...
they have a ford part #. A bit shorter but I like them.

if I cant get the step, the bracket will suppoert a 3inc pipe, coated with bed liner.

I never saw a set of OE Ford SD steps with aluminum brackets, especially from that year. The brackets should be stamped with something indicating the Ford part number or even have Ford on them somewhere. My steel brackets are stamped.

Ford did at one time offer an incredible variety of step bars and running boards in their Ford Accessories catalog when the 1999 Super Duty hit the streets. I recall there were about 5 different choices of STYLES, and one of these styles was body colored, so imagine multiplying that style by the half dozen colors offered, and then multiply that by 3 different cab lengths. It was an overwhelming number of parts to differentiate.

That's why I suspected the OP had Ford Accessory steps, and not Production steps... because you're right, Ford didn't have aluminum brackets in their production steps during that era. But Ford did contract with a number of different suppliers to offer a huge variety of accessories for their product launch of the Super Duty. I remember this from conversations with people involved with that sort of thing at the time.
