I think the axle tubes of the 3/4 ton d44 are larger than the 1/2 ton counterparts thereby they could be called HD if one was so inclined. They were rated at a higher weight.

Every 8 lug D44 I've ever seen on most forums has always been referred to as a D44 HD.

Agreed. When I sold mine I looked around a bunch to see what they were worth and that is how every one of the for sale adds was listed. That is how I listed mine and that is how I refer to those axles.

I also have always referred to the 8 lug (F-250) D44s as HD D44s. The outers are different, as well as the pumpkin casting and weight ratings. Sounds HD to me...

I wonder what's up with the track bar, and did anyone notice the extra tall/hugely angled/spring pads?
Castor angle is way off unless the inner C's have been reset.

I think you might be right. The angle of the C's looks way off to my eye.

If this is the case, it would steer/handle terribly. All that work and money and still push/pull type steering too
