I think the axle tubes of the 3/4 ton d44 are larger than the 1/2 ton counterparts thereby they could be called HD if one was so inclined. They were rated at a higher weight.
Every 8 lug D44 I've ever seen on most forums has always been referred to as a D44 HD.
Agreed. When I sold mine I looked around a bunch to see what they were worth and that is how every one of the for sale adds was listed. That is how I listed mine and that is how I refer to those axles.
I also have always referred to the 8 lug (F-250) D44s as HD D44s. The outers are different, as well as the pumpkin casting and weight ratings. Sounds HD to me...

Castor angle is way off unless the inner C's have been reset.

I think you might be right. The angle of the C's looks way off to my eye.
