Best side steps?

So, I'm looking to replace my side steps on my 2006 F-250. It has a 4.5" RC lift with 35" tires and still has the factory steps that are slippery in the winter. I like the look of it without the steps, but it's a PITA to get into without some sort of step. I would like to stick with a chrome style one as I have the Amarillo package and like contrast to break up the yellow a bit. What would you guys recommend?

A: generally there are no "best" anything, just what others like and recommend.
B: I am very satisfied with the Luverne stainless steel steps I originally bought for my 2002, now on my 2005. They still look great after 12 years and 2 trucks: Side Entry Steps

If you like the look of no steps but still want to have steps then the amp research power step might be what you are looking for. I would like a set also if you happen to buy 2 sets and want to give one away!

I bet somebody out there has a kick-step. It sits underneath and can't really be seen and when you need it you give it a kick and it comes out. I guess there's not really any way to close it from inside the truck, lol, but I'm sure you could find something.

I would go with the AMP research as well. I believe they also make extensions. The nice part is they open when the door opens and also light up. When not in use the tuck under the body.

I have heard the N-FAB style is great for getting in but not so much out.

Have you thought about applying some grip tape to the factory boards at all?

Unfortunately this is true, but they do look killer

In the OP's case though, I think the Amp's are in order (look of no step)

Just remember if you get the amp steps with the extensions they will show when they are in the stowed position. No extensions equal no show

I like the Amp steps, but the thought of spending 1,000 bucks on steps isn't appealing. My next choice has been the N-FAB's too. I'm not concerning with getting out, I can jump down. It's getting in that's the problem. lol

BUT, you only spend the $1000 ONE time!

And maybe you CAN jump down now, but onto ice in the winter?
and as you get older those knees SOMEHOW stop liking that

Just installed AMP steps. They are some stout steps. Like others have said, out of site until you open the door. Pretty simple install as well on my 2010 Super Duty. I would highly recomend them if in the budget!

I'm 27 years old, so getting old soon isn't a problem. The N-FAB bars are around 300 or so, and the AMP steps are around 1000. What's the warranty like for the AMP steps? Also, my question is how durable they're going to be in the snow and salt.

Can't help you with the snow and salt, but that might be something you can ask the company if it's a concern....

now....
having been there done that,
it only cost a BIT more to go first class...

and I promise it will seem like TOMORROW when you look back
and say "Wow, those years went by fast "

good luck on your decision !

Pulling this back up again. So far it's between the stainless steel N-Fab's for about 460 shipped and the AMP steps for 1000-ish. I like how the N-Fab ones look as they more fit the style of my truck. My concern with the AMP ones is that I'll smash it and also the fact that next time the truck goes through the mud the steps will be absolutely covered in it and a PITA to clean. Also, the truck is an Amarillo so it came with the polished factory side steps. I'd like to keep the Amarillo theme still part of the truck. When I upgraded bumpers and mirrors to the 2008+ style I got the chrome ones to match. Same with the RBP-style grille, it's chrome like the factory one. The only thing that doesn't currently match the factory steup is the fender flares but I have a feeling painting them yellow isn't going to look good.

My new F350 Lariat didn't have any steps from the factory, so I'm looking to get something to make the wife happy. Even though I didn't care for the look of them, the factory steps on my (now gone) F150 FX4 protected the side of the truck from rocks and dirt and mud from the front tires. Considering getting the AMP steps, but do they provide any protection for the paint when they are tucked under? (Not sure how far they tuck under)

Check Iron Cross out as well. I know the Excursion forum had a group buy recently. You may be able to get ahold of the salesman they went through for a deal. They look pretty cool and have a wheel to wheel style available as well.
