turbo rebuild?

On my 96 cclb with the 7.3 turbo 2wd, I have taken the turbo off to gain access to the fuel pump. I am looking into rebuilding the turbo. Where are some good shops to send it off to? Also what are some mods I can do to amp up the power right now while the turbo is off?

Back to top for you.
Only thing I can think of is putting on a "fast spool" exhaust housing. Your turbo currently has a 1.15 ar housing, you can get a 1.0 to build boost sooner. As far as rebuild, you can do it yourself. Riffraff sells a nice kit.
You could do bellowed up pipes, that will get rid of the leak prone donuts in the uppipe y housing. You can do high pressure oil crossover and a 17* (or even a new 15*) hpop.
You could do an e99 spider and put an intercooler on your truck.
What are your power goals. Depending on how much you're going to spend on a rebuild, you may be able to upgrade the whole turbo for something better and able to support more power.
What else have you done to your truck. Do you have gauges and a chip yet. Stock injectors limit power as well, but those are a little more pricy to upgrade. I'd suggest ac code injectors, 17* hpop, and a nice chip to go with it along with gauges. And all the other stuff I listed.

It's always easier to spend someone else's money.

Replace the exhaust especially that downpipe.. I just recently replaced mine and made a huge difference. Lots of photos in an exhaust post on here.

I also changed out the air intake for the 6637 mod.. It uses a NAPA 6637 air filter which is a huge canister type filter.

Both of these paid their self off with the first vacation trip this past July. My old 95 has never ran better. I'm getting 16 mpg running 65/70 mph on the highway and best so far was 23mpg country road cruising all with 4:10 gears.

I've looked into a turbo rebuild and decided that will be next. I may do a slight enhancement to it but I'm not after tons of power. Just figured when I go in to replace the other components hooked to the turbo I'll rebuild it as well at least all stock.

While you got it apart and in the area I would definitely check the fuel lines from the manifolds to the bowl. They get dry and brittle from time, fuel and heat. Mine blew on the highway in a major traffic jam followed by a tremendous downpour, in Feb. My clothes literally were frozen to me from working on the truck after dark trying to get it home. One of those wild temp swing days in KY went from 50 degrees to 18 degrees in about 8 hours. My 4 hour road trip turned into a 12 hour nightmare ride. I lost 30 gallons of fuel before I could get it somewhere to work on it and get the spray to a dribble. I was afraid to shut it down till I got to a decent size town. I put Ford factory hoses back on, they were like $170 for both of them. You can have new ones made far cheaper or do a home brew version with fuel fittings and hoses from the auto parts place. I needed my truck back on the road immediately and they were in stock 10 miles from my house. Either way do it if you think they are the originals.
