1997 ford f150 automatic 4x4 4.6 ltr problems mabe transmission
Hi i am new here and having a problem mabe someone could help.1997 ford f150 automatic 4x4 was perfectly fine till today ,no slipping no warning nothing.pulled in the driveway and about 30 minutes later had to run out.the truck tried and pulled like it wanted to go while in drive but wouldnt.then i tried it in reverse and went fine like nothing is wrong.i put it back into drive accelerated for a minute then it went for about 15 miles.while at a red light tried to go and it wouldnt move but was able to put it in reverse to back out of the lane.so i had it tow roped back home and half way there while accelerated about 10 miles into it it caught and ran fine till i slowed down.at home i changed the tranny filter and fluid.no foul smell, the fluid looked perfect,no metal nothing in the tranny pan,i tried to put it in 2wd and 4wd to see if it would go and still did nothing.after accelerating the gas a minute it pulled and tried to move forward but nothing.any suggestions i would greatly appreciate.praying it isnt in the tranny because everything sounds and seems fine.thank you

Before you pull anything apart, check fuse 23.
If blown, look for a short to ground in the harness under the truck.
This fuse feeds the transmission shift solenoids and other applications.
If fuse is blown there will be a string of codes set.
The reason the trans will work in reverse is that it is not controlled by any solenoid operation as the forward operation is.
Good luck.

70f100, read it again!
The trans will have reverse but the power to the solenoids will be missing.
I ....did not...... say it would not move forward in any gear.
I said the power would be missing if fuse 23 is blown
Tell me about it, I have experienced it first hand.
Don't change the meaning of what was said, please.

If there there no codes, you likely have internal mechanical issues.
Good luck.

I did read what you said and it's wrong. You said "The reason the trans will work in reverse is that it is not controlled by any solenoid operation as the forward operation is." The symptom is no forward engagement and that can't be caused by a blown fuse. If the trans had no power you would still get forward but would be limited to 2nd gear.
