Hey Jack:
Per my earlier theory, I looked up my 2002 E150 front rotors and they are 11.71" in diameter. 2005 E150 front rotors are 12.83" in diameter, so you do indeed have the largest brakes Ford ever put on a 5-lug E150.

This makes me want to convert mine, but I'd need new wheels and tires, and I just bought brand new 15" Michelin LTX M/S2's, and have alloy wheels, so I won't bother.

They clearly did switch to 16" wheels for a reason beyond "looks"...

Well FastMan I checked my previous source but it seems they've left FleaBay. I do have my original receipt and IIRC their website was listed there---I'll find that and post their site here a bit later Sunday.

In the meantime here's a decent price on MotorCraft rotors, fair price and free shipping too---might be worth looking into: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Disc-Brake-R...95d52a&vxp=mtr

Update: Found the sellers I used previously: http://www.sarad.com/SearchResults.aspx

Call and talk to them----they're easier to deal with on the phone than through emails.

My two cents:

> avoid made in China. I've had better luck with Germany and Mexico.
> hand-torque your lug nuts, or ask that your tech does it.
> don't drive with warped rotors for long periods, it can cause unnecessary wear on your steering gearbox (a fellow E-Series guy swears that his gearbox was trashed by driving with warped rotors for 10,000 miles... I believe him).
> keep your box and receipts -- if they warp prematurely, sometimes you can get another set for free (or pro-rated for wear).

On all my other vehicles I've been using Bendix Global rotors. The outlast and outperform all of the Duralast, valucraft, Wearever (advance) i had used prior. Rockauto.com lists them at $53 each plus shipping. Compare that to Teamfordparts.com which has the factory originals for $117 each plus shipping.

I have yet to need to replace my pads or rotors on the Van. When I do, these will be what I use. I feel like "Made in China" isn't always the same damning label. As with tires, major manufacturers have been making products in China for a long time, but to their company standards. As opposed to the Chinese government run factories that are just turning out crap quality knock offs (and originals).

I am leaning towards this:
Power Stop 1-Click Extreme Truck & Tow Brake Kits | Powerstop

What do you all think? I've never heard of PowerStop before. Has anyone heard of them?

welp: I ordered them. Power Stop Extreme Truck & Tow front brake kit and matching rear pads.
RockAuto had a closeout on Ultra Rotors, slotted/drilled rears that I ordered previously.

Also on the way: new wheel bearings and seals, and caliper rebuild kits. Also all four rubber brake lines.

Only 5 more days of the vibrating workvan...

The main cause of warped rotors are driving into water when the rotor's are hot. That and people who tend to stand on the brake pedal constantly. Before blaming the rotors, examine your braking habits. Slow, planned braking is the key to long brake component life. Hard braking always shortens component life

I've been examining my braking habits for years. I do brake somewhat aggressively a few times per day, but that's just a day in the life of 200miles per day in Orlando area. I drive it very conservatively most f the time. Coasting and not braking are vital to achieving 13+mpg in a 6.8L V10 workvan filled with stuff.

Splashing mud puddles has been fun for me over the years, but I avoid them for the recents few months since someone else mentioned that to me.

And long life of brake components is not remotely my goal. I'd change the brake pads twice per year if it would allow smooth, strong braking. (Long life of rotors is important but only because they are so expensive).

Hopefully my new heavy-duty, high-performance pads and rotors will suffice.

If no issues, then why are you in your 3rd set?

I have been using the autozone duralast rotors (2 year warranty I think maybe 1 year) anyhow I get good pads and I also have been changing out the calipers at the same time. The costs are not that great and they have been pretty durable. I think dirty calipers more than anything cause most brake issues. Since changing calipers vs leaving the originals on I have had much fewer brake issues with vehicles. I just did the brakes on my ranger and changed everything to include the master. Switched to the 3/4 sythetic fluid at the same time. Biggest hassle was the bleeding, just could not get the rears done right, but finally won the war.

I have run the duralast on my old F250 pulled trailer without issues also. been thinking of maybe going to slotted rotors on my F350 and maybe the E450 RV. But they dont need brakes yet.

I do tons of miles, I change front pads in spring and in fall I do pads again + rotors. Rotors are usually worn and rusted from the harsh salty winter roads here.

I follow this schedule so I don have to do brake work in -30 weather.
