interior light wiring

The interior lights on my 1992 have not worked for years off of the door switches. They still operate from the headlight switch but neither door switch turns the lights on.

I would like to repair this and have looked at it a few times over the years but have never figured it out. There is a ton of knowledge in the forum and I am hoping that there is someone out there who can give a quick explanation of how those door switches are wired and operate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Don't know how in depth you want to go and I don't have my manual with me but the switches are fairly simple. Basically the switches are open when the doors are closed and they are closed when the doors are open. I believe it's a basic 2 wire operation. So when the doors open the switch closes completing the circuit and when the doors are closed the circuit breaks the connection. Pull your kick panels off and follow the wires to their connector, put a meter on them and see if you get power. It could be that the switches went bad.
