Are the front and rear brake drums interchangeable on 48 f2?

I need to replace a rear on my 48 F2. It is rusted out real good.

But as far as new parts in the parts catalogs I mostly see just the front drum.

Can I use a front on the rear? Or does anyone have a good lead on a rear drum?

They aren't on the F1, so doubtful on the F2. Check the depth dimensions - that's where you'll likely find the difference.

 

No, the front and rear drums are not interchangeable. The rear drums are wider (deeper) than the front. The rear drums are no longer reproduced and are not available anywhere that I could find. Check with FrankCowan on this forum as I believe he still has one good used drum left as I bought one from him about 6 weeks ago.

Ford changed brake design in the mid 1951 model year, the brake drums are different. Here are the drawings for the earlier models and the later models.
