I think that the airplane might be an old Grumman 'Goose', and if it is, I flew many a short hop in one, from Long Beach International airport, to Catalina Island, where I worked a few summers.. Nice plane.... Da Plane Boss... Da Plane...

BTW, nice to see you back on the forum Jackson, been wondering, ??

Hello, everybody! My valves showed up today! I'll drop off the head at the machine shop on Saturday and we'll go from there. Apparently these are the holy grail of the Ford 300. Well... besides the cross-flow head.

Attachment 288787

Also yes it is a Grumman Goose.

Are you guys restoring the Goose? I have lots of fond memories of flying to Catalina and back, on Channel Airlines, in a Goose. Got to sit up front a bunch of times, as was the only passenger going to the Isthmus, near the North end of the island. Way fun landing on the water, in Cat Harbor, dodging the sailboats... and all...

You are going to be really amazed at the difference in your motor now, will make vs the stock performance . Mine is not nearly the motor you are building, but still, the things I have done, have made a HUGE difference in performance...

Good job Jackson...

Enjoy reading all your updates. Would like to install a 300 in my '69. It has the old original 240 right now. Looks like a nice toy laying behind the head. Been doing some target practicing? I had a marlin and killed a 11 point deer with it when I 12 years old.

I myself bought a 30-30 not long ago. Newer Marlin 336W. Fun little rifle. Not a big fan of the sights though. Hard to line up at close range, hard to see long range.

So it turns out that within walking distance from my work is a machine shop with a good reputation, so I dropped off the head today at lunch. It's always hilarious how the more I talk about my engine and what's done to it the more sideways someone's head gets. Will update when I get the head back.

Yes in his spare time the owner works on the plane. He's almost done the wings now.

And yes I really can't wait to feel the difference in performance. I've been told that simply throwing on an Offy intake and a 4bbl carb really wakes it up. I've obviously done more. To what effect it'll have is an unknown still.

It packs away quite nicely.

Thank you. If you ever need any pointers on what to do with your swap I'd be happy to help.

I've never gone hunting. Dad never had the time to take me. In fact when he was approximately 25 (he's approaching 60 now) he put that .30-30 in storage and had never touched it since. For Father's Day I completely stripped it apart, cleaned it, got it working again, and then took him to the range. He really enjoyed getting to shoot it.

I do too but ammo is expensive. Those boxes were on sale for $20. Typically they're around $32. A good hunting round is $45 a box.

Much cheaper on this side of the border. Only thing i still can't find is .22. I can get .50BMG at Walmart but not .22.

Come on down sometime and we will go to the range

Yeah I'm sure we could arrange something! I'm not bringing my guns across the border though. Not interested in having them seized.
