4.6 mod motor heads
I've been on here a little less than 2 years building my 54 f100 and I'm now at the point where I need to have the heads done on the 4.6 that I've chosen for my project.
I bought a 95' linc m8 as a doner car. I will be using the motor and tranny and computer and all the electrical stuff that came with it. the motor is the 32v model and runs great except for the head gasket problem. now that its all fitted in I'm going to remove the heads and have them cleaned up......the problem is... (not really a problem).....I also bought a 2003 cr vic that has the police issue 4.6 in it to use as a dd. WOW, this thing flies!!! are the heads on the p.i. motors any different? and can I have my 95 linc heads cut to the same tolerances as the p.i. heads? I've got a local guy that does that kind of work but I wanted to run it by you guys before I make a move.
especially the X racer! I know he'll have some good info.
thanks in advance, you guys are the best!!!

55f100tx is correct, you have two completely different heads on those two engines. FYI: your police engine is the same engine as the other SOHC 4.6 used in all the panthers (Town Car, Grand Marquis) of the same year. The only difference is the tune. When referring to the 4.6 SOHC engines, PI = performance improved, not police interceptor. The PI heads were introduced in the early 2000s, but I'm not 100% sure of the year. Those big heads and cam covers on the DOHC look really sharp when polished up and they'd look great in an old Ford truck!

Hey Q! Long time!
I'm not up on all the mod motor variants, I'm more a bowtie than belly button type guy if you get my drift, but 55f100's steering you right that much I know. There are some HO heads out there, Hot Rod magazine ran a couple articles about the mods within the last year, you might do a search on their site on how to recognize the various permutations.

thanks to howard and x. i'll again do my homework and research these heads a little further before I have them cut. i, too, like the idea of those big cam head covers all cleaned up under the hood of my 54 f-100. I got a nice gas tank from mid 50's to go between the back rails. as soon as I get it in i'll post some pix.
onward and upward!!!!

The PI heads came out on the 99 Mustang and added about 30-40 HP if I remember correctly. The 32V DOHC heads are better and can be run on the 4.6L block but you will need all of the top end and front cover plus accessories to run them. If you were to piece the whole project together, you will spend more money than just buying a whole Lincoln or Cobra engine complete (plus the wiring is different)
The 96-98 cobras had the "B" head with the fat intake manifold and were ok on power plus there are a ton around.
The 99+ were the "C" head which is the best head and can be found in the cobras and mach 1s. The intake is a lot different and will not change with the "B" head intake.
The Lincoln M8 is the same Innetech 32V and will work but i believe the cams are a bit different. DO NOT USE A CONTINENTAL ENGINE. It is transversely mounted and the motor mounts wont work in a RWD setup, Im pretty sure the bellhousing bolt pattern is different as well.
If I were you, since you have the SOHC engine, I would find a decent pair of PI heads that are flat and dont need a bunch of machine work, toss some nice cams in and install a new timing chain/guides. That would be the cheapest route.
If you are trying to go DOHC and are looking for a good base, look for the Teksid (high strength aluminum block) and the Forged Kellogg Crank (8 bolt flywheel pattern)

yes, I do have the 4v (32valve total) 95 linc m8 motor and all the electronics and it looks like i'll be sticking pretty close to that set up. after all, I am 68 and anything I get over 300 horses is wasted on an old poop like me. I'm more interested in the great sound of a motor that's running as it should.....just a side note...I am putting 3" full headers on it....just for the sound of course!! you guys are great...thanks tons
